So does the Reminders app sync with anything?
Do to do items set in the Reminders app sync with iCal in MobileMe? Or do they sync with iCal in iCloud? Or do they not sync with anything?

It syncs with iCal, but only through iCloud, no other way.
Thanks. I'm not able to use iCloud until I get a machine that can run Lion.
I'm feeling rather cheated, as Apple advertised this as syncing with iCal, iCloud, and Outlook. That clearly implies that iCal syncing is separate from iCloud. (And it should be! Tasks in iCal are synced via SyncServices, the exact same framework that handles calendar and contact syncing.)
I also can't upgrade to Lion, as I prefer my primary work computer to not up and die randomly:
Sorry? It does sync with iCal, but it works through iCloud. You mean you want it to sync using the USB cable?
I'm with you -- but I refuse to use iCloud to sync, I want to be in control of all my data, and through iTunes, you can not sync Reminders, making it completely useless.
Why do you refuse to use the free service that will make the feature you want not completely useless?
Oh, man. I've been searching for a while, hoping that wasn't the answer. Is there any legitimate reason for Apple not to allow Reminders syncing through iTunes? Now to use Reminders I have to sync my calenders through iTunes too, it seems, since they're not separate on the Mac side. And now OSX won't let me back out of iCloud without deleting all my calendars. I guess I'll have to export/re-import my calendars. Apple sure seems desperate to get us on iCloud and keep us there.
It's Apples typical move...they don't care if you sync calendars notes or reminders...what they want is for you to get onto iCloud so that you can purchase streaming movies, music, etc which makes money for them. Remember, iTunes, iPads and everything else were developed for entertainment first, productivity second.
I'm sticking with my ToDo on iPad and iPhone which syncs through Toodledo. I was hoping I could finally use the built in reminders in iCal, but no such luck.
As to NotYou above, welcome Newbie, and your late to the game. We've had discussions for years here between those who love all things Internet, and those who want to be in charge of heir own data and business users. This is another one of those things.
Thanks. I'll give ToDo a try, and I'll send Apple some feedback.
I understand apple semi-monopolic moves after being in the shadows of Microsoft but things like these -leaving reminders out of sync with itunes- is really a low move just to get us into icloud. Well it is their game and we have all the right not to play.
Anyway I do not like anyone who is not clear when selling anything. May it be Apple or the corner store.
Sign of the times.
I've tried to use iCloud, but it made a mess of all my calendar entries, duplicate entries, new birthday calendar that duplicates birthdays, new useless calendars. A mess. Then, a pearl: I was not able to update my calendar entries on my iPhone.
Contacts were ok. Notes seem working, too.
Then I've logged out from iCloud and had to re-import all of my calendar entries (as the calendar now "pertains to iCloud"), and my observation is that we are not able to sync reminders without using iCloud. There is also the issue that you should look at TWO calendars (one of reminders, the one the calendar) if you want to use it.
I believe Apple needs to add:
* integration with iCal;
* ability to work off-line
* make iCloud bug-free, I do not get why we should have "duplication of entries as-a-feauture" with microsoft-like stupid warnings: "if you click on this you will have two copies of that" ...
* I do not get also why the info should "pertain to the cloud" and it could not be "several versions that sync" ... in the end also the cloud could be considered a device on his own, and, for the people that have limited access to the internet (as me are now, I'm moving) it makes perfect sense.
just my 2c
I will not use iCloud until it works as it should, in all its functionality.
Turn off syncing Of iCal and Address Book in iTunes.
It's not a free feature if you've not updated your computer's OS. 😟
I also am super bummed. I've used the integrated iCal reminders for years (for all my school work, etc.) and finally thought I could make sync it to my iPhone. Alas. I used Todo for a while, which does sync with iCal reminders (huzzah!), but since I've moved back on campus, I can't get the wifi sync to work while I'm on the campus wireless, as opposed to me own.
I supposed I'll just have to be more on top of my readings. 😝
Does anybody else get a horrible tightening feeling in their chest with this sort of stuff? I mean, blood pressure starting to creep up, and shortness of breath?
I'm getting thoroughly fed up of Apple's aggressive control over their customers. This, as somebody said above, is a trap to get us all on iCloud.
Some users on here (shills?) seem to be all happy about that, but for example: iCloud/calendar sync is now designed only to work if you have upgraded to iOS X Lion, which has introduced a whole swathe of "updated" system apps that no longer include the "SAVE AS..." option in the File Menu. For many professional user who have developed their own personal workflow over the years, this is the final straw. But Apple don't care. Their primary market is massively directed at consumer-level now, i.e. users who have few demands and zero workflow preferences of their own.
I actually miss my old Windows computer now, because IT ALLOWED ME TO DO WHAT I WANT WITH MY OWN FILES.
