Pages and Numbers Not Syncing in iCloud

Bookmarks, Contacts and Calendars are all syncing with icloud. Works beautifully, however when I change a Pages or Numbers document on my MacBook Pro, it doesn't sync with my ipad. itunes 10.5, ios 5, Lion 7.2 in use. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks, Rob

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.1), 2.2 Ghz Intel Core i7, 8 GB Ram

I too realized this was happening for me, and read the iCloud features page more closely. Apparently, it doesn't actually do what we want it to (and what I thought it was presented as doing). It only automatically syncs documents across iOS devices, but not Macs. Lame.

This is the quote from the iCloud documents page :

"

Documents in the Cloud. And on your Mac or PC.

iCloud makes it easy to move Pages, Keynote, and Numbers documents between your computer and your iOS devices. Just sign in to icloud.com/iwork in any modern web browser, and all your iWork for iOS documents will be there — complete with your most recent edits. Click a document to download it in iWork ’09, Microsoft Office, or PDF format. You can also drag and drop any iWork ’09 or Microsoft Office document from your computer into one of the iWork apps on icloud.com, and it automatically appears on all your iOS devices, ready for you to review, edit, or present.

"

So to sync with the Mac, you have to manually drag and drop into the iCloud interface.

I really hope Apple updates this so that it automatically syncs with Macs also, because otherwise it's usefulness is severely limited.

I just ran into a similar issue and was able to resolve it

Devices:

iPhone (iOS 6.1.3 - 10B329), Pages (1.7.2)

iPad (iOS 6.1.3 - 10B329), Pages (1.7.2)

MacBook Pro (OS X 10.8.5 -12F37), Pages (4.3 - 1048)

Issue:

Syncing to and from the iPhone and iPad over iCloud worked. Syncing to the MacBook Pro worked. Syncing from the MacBook Pro did not work.

*Any Pages document created on the Mac Pro was not synchonized via iCloud.

Resolution (Clear the local iCloud cache and create one document from an iOS device):

1. Disable iCloud syncing for Documents & Data. System Preferences > iCloud > uncheck "Documents and Data"

2. Move the "Mobile Documents" folder (local cache for iCloud Documents & Data). Open Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal), run the following command to move the folder to the desktop, as apposed to deleting for backup purposes: mv ~/Library/Mobile\ Documents* ~/Desktop/Mobile\ Documents

3. Enable iCloud syncing for Documents & Data. System Preferences > iCloud > check "Documents and Data"

4. Create a new Document on one of the iOS devices.

At this point, I was able to create Documents in Pages for Mac and have them sync to my iOS devices via iCloud.

I have now spent several days and many hours to make this work.

It Just Doesn't Work!

Anything created in the cloud does not synce with my iPhone. Let alone anything created on my Mac.

In the indicidual app in the cloud Apple says: "Changes automatically appear in Pages/Keynote/Numbers on Mac, iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch"

OH NO THEY DON'T!

I am not just frustrated and annoyed, I am mad as **** about this.

Oh, and one more thing. When I try to create a Numbers or Keynote document in iCloud in Firefox, I get the following error message: "Your browsser isn't fully supported. For the best Numbers/Keynote for iCloud experience, use the latest version of Safari"

Hey Apple, ... I get the same error message in the latest version of Safari.

This issue reminds me of the debacle with Maps in iOS 6.

I think Apple tried to respond to the threat posed by Google with their cloud apps of Google Docs, i.e Docs, Sheets and Slides, and as with Maps they implemented this too fast before it was ready for prime time.

To make matters worse, Tim Cook announced this with great fanfare during his keynote for the new iPhones. I'm sure giving away Pages, Numbers and Keynote for free with the purchase of new devices has prompted many people to download and try these app. Now that they find out that the promised syncing does not work at all, people are getting frustrated and possibly jumping ship to Google Docs.

Bad move Apple.

Maybe so. Two days ago I received the following email from the iWork Team.

Who every have this problem.

First, you need to follow what danielfromspringfield above.

But some of them might not be able. Because of belows.

If your documents are too complicated. You might have potential not sync after all above.

You need to duplicate the documents, and move to your computor instead of icloud.

And delete the original form icloud.

And perform what danielfromspringfield above.

And move the new document to icloud.

You will find it sync again.

To avoid future problems.

I suggest if you have complicated documents.

When you open the documents from your iphone or ipad.

Open a copy instead of open original one.

As no matter how go is the sync.

It is 2 different operating system.

You should not have problem if you open a copy.

I think soon should not have this type of problem since iphone and ipad moving to 64bits.

It should be able to become a same program for iwork.

And a comment to the person who think people jump ship to google docs.

There are plenty of clouding docs around. You can choose whatever you want.

Those are for people never really need to work on documents on the move.

Who really need to work on many documents on the move, all others are not working at all.

You can't even use it if you don't have internet connection.

So what you going to do, if your client want to meet you at a basement restaurant.

What, tell them too bad, I need somewhere have free wifi or 4G connection to dine in.

Only apple iwork can perform this type of work

Now even have the iwork on icloud

Just wanted to pitch in. Had this issue pop up. Just wouldn't sync 3rd party data.

The fix listed above from danielfromspringfield worked perfectly for me. I got close on my own, but after clearing out the Mobile Documents folder, I didn't try to create a new document. I used Pages on my iPad. That seemed to trigger the regeneration of the Mobile Documents folder on my Mac, where many of my previous attempts failed.

THANKS!

I tried this too, without any luck. I've even signed out of iCloud on my MacBook Pro, and re-signed in, got the latest versions of Pages and Numbers, all without success. Things stopped syncing to and from my MacBook Pro about 5 months ago (although syncing to iCloud.com to and from my iPhone works great). It shouldn't be this difficult. It used to work. It actually worked better back in the MobileMe days. Hoping a fix is coming soon, because I love Pages and Numbers, and plan to continue with them.
