Pages and Numbers Not Syncing in iCloud

Bookmarks, Contacts and Calendars are all syncing with icloud. Works beautifully, however when I change a Pages or Numbers document on my MacBook Pro, it doesn't sync with my ipad. itunes 10.5, ios 5, Lion 7.2 in use. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks, Rob

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.1), 2.2 Ghz Intel Core i7, 8 GB Ram

Hi,

I also have this problem since some time now, i.e. sync between iCloud and iPhone or iPad works just fine, only with the Mac (latest version of OS X) does not work.

I called Apple Support and we tried everything together (the usual steps of removing directories, turn off/on iCloud on my Mac, etc). I also connected the Mac through my iPhone's Personal Hotspot (in case there was a issue with my internet provider) and created a fresh OS X on a separate partition (in case there was something setup wrong in my system). But nothing solved the issue.

If I check my console's ubiquity.log, I can see always the following lines when Pages or Numbers is trying to upload a file:

[ERROR] b4220ba036c0 [13/03/13 10:21:43.285] {5F266FCE} 292.fsevents track_file_change:62 0 - 127483 would make used quota negative

[ERROR] b4220ba0b270 [13/03/13 10:21:43.285] {5F266FCE} 292.fsevents track_file_change:82 0 - 127483 would make total quota negative

Does anyone know what this is about?

This worked for me. After uploading your very 1st Pages document from your Mac, go to your iPad and iPhone. Go to General Tab. Reset the devices. You do not have to reset the data on the devices, only the settings. Go back to the Mac. Delete the iCloud document that is "waiting". Put the same document back into iCloud from your documents folder. After that, everything started synching perfectly for me. Hope the same for everyone else.

I had a problem right after I installed the pages app on my iPhone where it was not syncing the documents I made on the phone with the ones on my mac and vise-versa. What fixed it though is if you go into icloud settings on the phone, you can delete the account and go ahead and delete all the content of the phone and then go back and sign in. It refreshed all the icloud content on my phone and imediatly started to work in pages and all the other iWork apps.

Dang, well I had a nice long run, about two months, but it quit syncing again 😟

This is insanely frustrating.

I leave my financial numbers spreadsheet open on my computer all the time, and when I'm away I use my iPad to view and edit that spreadsheet...which is hosted in iCloud. Is there a problem leaving it open on my Mac Pro while editing it with my iPad? It seems like it had been working fine these past couple months. It'd be pretty sad if something as simple as having a numbers document open in two places was enough to break the syncing. Now I've gotta uninstall iCloud ALL OVER again, I'm getting real tired of having to do this, especially as busy as I am, I don't have time for this crap! Why can't they just make it work reliably??? If it were Microsoft I'd understand the poor reliability, but this is Apple. I expect more from Apple.

Allowing simultaneous updates from multiple sources is very tricky to get right. Pages would have to do a lot of extra work locking, unlocking, and checking status to enable such updating. Not to say there are not programs that go to that trouble, but I've never heard Apple claim that Pages can handle it. (I might just have missed it.)

I think updating a document on your iPad while it is open on your Mac Pro is risky behavior. Unless the code in Pages is perfectly written to handle it, sooner or later you are going to have a problem. Given that almost no code is perfectly written, I would avoid seeking out the bugs.

If I'm wrong about that, somebody please jump in and correct me.

Reading the 13 pages of this post has confirmed my suspicions: Apple marketing is way ahead of Apple testing. iOS and iCloud synching work ok. Add my Mac to the picture and it breaks. Ray Ozzie, while at Lotus, got this working with Lotus Notes in the 90s. Google Docs synchs well but then it's totally cloud based (and the apps are far behind the iWork trio).

So, I'll keep using Dropbox until Apple quality assurance can validate Apple marketing's claims. Then the sales claims will conform with reality.

Wikipedia states: "The FSEvents API in Mac OS X allows applications to register for notifications of changes to a given directory tree.". So "fsevents track_file_change:" means 'hey, a file has changed' and 'ERROR ... would make used quota negative' means 'yes, but we're full up'. Whether your iCloud quota really is used up, or somebody's not doing their sums right, is another matter.

This thread was started on Oct 12, 2011 by Rob Weinberg (thank you Rob!) and still going! I've dropped in on this day because I've been in search of an answer, for the same issue(s) everybody is bringing up. I'm tired and frustrated, after so much reading of the threads, and given up the search; It's so hopless! I'll add this to the conversation: I used to be very happy with idisk (remember idisk?) and then one day there was icloud...

Hey all, try this, it worked for me.

I had the same problem related with keynotes files in iPhone and iPad devices. iCloud was working properly in Mac (Keynote for Mac) and was syncing with the icloud web app. It wasn't working in mobile devices (iPhone 5 and Ipad 3)

The only thing I did was the following: (same in iPhone and iPad)

Close Keynote app (kill)

Settings / iCloud / Documents / Off

Start Keynote app then close and kill

Settings / iCloud / Documents / On

Start Keynote app

and.... it start synching

That's all !!
