use iMessage with iCloud email alias?

That's a really messed up situation. So for those of us who had been paying $100 per year for MobileMe, we can't add any of our aliases to our AppleID account, but we can add any freebee email address or alias from hotmail, yahoo or gmail??? Any email address or alias no matter what except MobileMe?????

hi, i have exactly the same problem,

i have an appleid as GMAIL

and as alternative email my @me email

and i want to add an alias from my @me (icloud account) to use it for facetime and imessage and when

i try to associate it with my appleid i hit "save changes" but the page just reloads....without saving anything.

i cant understand why...i tried to add several alias but the same problem occured..when i add another email there's no problem..

please if anyone found any solution please answer.

I had the same setup and situation as krtliv and attempted countless other futile solutions. Being that I hadn't made any purchases with my old apple id, I abandoned it and created a new @me account to serve as both my apple id and icloud account hoping this might possibly work. It didn't.

I'm under the impression this is not currently possible for others than pre-iCloud MobileMe users who somehow have their aliases "grandfathered" in? Not sure. All I know, at the moment, the only workarounds are to add a non-apple affiliated e-mail (yahoo, aol, etc.) to your apple id for use with imessage/facetime or create a second apple id to use with them.

I'm hoping with Mountain Lion not being too far away that this may change soon.

Still the same. Funny, on the Apple ID account page, it says you can change your Apple ID, but there's no way to do it. If I could do that, I wouldn't have this problem.

Me too! My main account is kinda of silly and I want to give most of my friends an alias that sounds normal.

thanks for this it worked but for some reason the alias i made with mobile me does not work only the new aliases i created when i switched to icloud ........strange

I get the same message... can't activate, with either my .mac or my mobile me names...

Unfortunately I can't add iCloud alias to my Apple ID - changes don't save. I have tried more than 10 times with no result.

The problem is: I don't get any verification email.
