I have a related but different problem and would appreciate any help. My wife updated her gen 1 iPad to iOS5 but in the process filled up the disk on her hard drive so it could not finish her restore of all the apps, photos, documents, etc. Unfortunately the iPad had not been backed up before starting the upgrade.
I tried various things to reduce the data on the hard drive or replace it entirely - the 2nd drive wound up crashing! Eventually I just got rid of more files and had enough room to finish the restore - or so I thought. For some reason I don't understand it couldn't finish although there was enough disk space now.
I decided to do a regular restore and that seemed to work fine-or so I thought. Now the problem-my wife had a drawing program and a writing program with significant work done in both. Even though the apps are now back, the files are not.
Is there somewhere on the computer's hard drive where a copy of those types of files would have been placed as part of the upgrade process? If so, where?
The iPad is now set to back-up to the Cloud. Is it possible to look at the contents there and see if those files were backed-up there during the upgrade process?
thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Tom
