iCal Duplicates With iCloud

I just set up iCloud with my Mac and it unfortunately duplicated everything in my iCal database -- it looks like it even duplicated the calendar categories and picked random colors for them. Is this happening for anyone else? How can I fix this?

I think I just fixed it -- or at least it seems that way...

I opened up the iCloud pane in System Preferences and unchecked "Calendars," and then re-checked it and clicked yes when it wanted to know if it should merge the calendars. It kept the new colors for the calendars (when it had duplicated it) but other than that it seems okay.

Same issue.

Like aaplgeek, I also resolved it by clicking the "Calendars" button in the top left (alternatively, View -> Show Calendars), and unchecking the local calendars, leaving the iCloud calendars visible.

It seems that the events weren't actually duplicated... it's just (VERY unintuitively) that by default, iCal is display both your local and your synced copies at once. But seeing as how the synced ones should match anyways, it's just ridiculous and made me think something was horribly wrong.

This did help for my Address Book. That's finally synced across all my devices now. But iCal on my iMac simply refuses to sync. All my appointments after today have vanished (with, oddly, a few inexplicable exceptions), but those appointments are all present on my iPad and iPhone. I tried Sid's recommendation, but my iCal doesn't show any other calendars except the iCloud one; I don't have any other choices. This is really frustrating.

You could try to first uncheck your calendar from the iCloud pref pane. Then sign out of iCloud and then sign back in. You will get two options when you sign out: Keep data on the iMac or Delete it. I vote for keeping the data.

After signing back in, recheck the calendar, and select Merge data. This should restore sync with your iMac, preserve the calendars, and avoid duplicates.
