Duplicate TV Shows on iOS 5 devices

Hi,

How can I fix/remove duplicate TV Shows when browsing from iOS 5 device (iPhone 4 and iPad) to Mac (iTunes 10.5)? Has anybody experienced it? Home Sharing works great for music and movies, except for album covers that occasionally get mixed up, but it's really bad when it comes to TV Shows. They look OK on the Mac, but there are lot's of duplicates on iOS devices.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I am having the same problem. Films are fine, no duplicates - however, TV Shows when browsing from an iOS 5 device are a complete mess. Duplicates shown everywhere, and many series missing. From my PC or AppleTV, the series are fine, no duplicates, all showing, all in order. A fix to this would be amazing. I also hate how they have went mad with artwork on Videos and Music. I miss the old fashioned iPod lists that were simple and quick to browse through. I think apple messed up here 😟

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks

I have an issue too. In itunes, all my album covers are as they should be and were ok on iphone 4 before iOS5 update. Now, on my iphone, I have the same album cover for say 7 different albums/artists and the "cover flow" (if that's what its still called) is messed up. The music is all still ok but I now can be listening to a Coldplay album with a Counting Crows cover, the same cover which is also displayed for say Kings of Leon and other artists. Any Ideas please?

I don't think this is the same problem. We are not syncing our library to the iPad, we are sharing it, and therefore there is no sync and there is no option to check or uncheck songs.

I am suffering from the same problem described in the OP. The really irritating bit is that I have been using homesharing on the iPad for over a year with no problems. Since updating to iOS5 on release day, tv show sharing has been broken. As described above, multiple instances of the same show/season (upwards of 5 duplicates) Each instance works in it's own right as a link to those episodes. More importantly, only some of my TV Shows are showing. In my case, it only gets to the very first shows in 'B'.

I have been using Homesharing for a long time, on iPad, iPhone, iTV(1) and for all the various members of my family on their respective computers. In most of these situations it still works fine. Even on the iPhone on iOS5 it works as well (possibly even better) as it ever did. This problem is isolated to the iPad, and I would guess, large librarys.

Come on Apple, Fix it! In most other respects a great update, but the removal of multitouch gestures, and breaking homeshare are a huge step backwards for the iPad.

just to update, the problem seems to be spreading - my Films library has been hit with another problem. Artwork is duplicating itself across multiple films. unlike the TV Shows, the artwork doesnt actually depict what film it is representing. for example, the artwork for the first film in my library is Due Date, but when i open the video, it plays Angels and Demons, the first video in my library (as it should). this is beoynd a joke now

I have the same problem with Home Sharing. TV shows grouped correctly into seasons within iTunes show up grouped within ATV, but kind of un-grouped within iPad and iPhone (iOS5), with repeat names and artwork. For example season X with 10 episodes within it within iTunes, shows up on my iPad as season X, but 10 times - and each time I can select the folder/season and then see the 10 episodes ! A complete mess. Even worse, half my TV shows don't even show up at all on the iPad. Same problem to a lesser extent with iPhone 4 - lots of duplicates, but at least I get all the seasons for different shows actually being listed.

Many of the suggestions in my article on Grouping tracks into albums apply to TV Shows. In particular setting common Album and Album Artist values may help. Season No. should be left blank if you want multiple seasons under one cover and Episode IDs should be alphabetically ordered using a pattern like s01e01 or s01e001. Ideally use overall Episode numbers rather than starting again at one for each new season. Disc # should correspond to Season # and Track # can match Episode #.

I tried your idea and it kind of worked. I couldn't see duplicates anymore, but artwork is still buggy, I get the same artwork for different shows... Still think it's a problem with iOS5, as it was perfect before... 😟

* sorry, anybody know how I can remove the "helpful answer"? I wanted to click turingtest2's as "helpful" and accidentaly hit my own...
