I can't send emails with me.com in Mail app (iCloud)

So I set up my iCloud account and it did so automatically. The problem is that I cannot send emails from Mail app. I can do it if I go to iCloud.com though.

When I try to send a message, there is a notification saying: "The server “p08-smtp.mail.me.com” cannot be contacted on the default ports." I attached a picture below so you can see it exactly.

How can I solve this issue. When I first setup iCloud, it didn't let me recieve messages. Now, it doesn't let me send messages. Is there a solution? Is it something I have to setup manually? or is it something Apple would have to fix on their side?

I have tried to edit the SMTP server but have no luck. When I click on the Connection Doctor, it says the connection is SUCCESSFUL. I just don't know what is going on

Appreciate your responsed, and thank youUser uploaded file

I'm just posting this as I did for all these threads for the same issue:

Ok I think this problem here is Apple... It's a DNS problem. You get this problem depending on what smtp server you are registered on.

I always get the message that "p06-smtp.mail.me.com" failed...

But according to the nslookup command there are only the servers "p01, p02, p03, p04"... no p05 and p06 or p07 and p08 ...

User uploaded file

What I did to get it to work (only considered as workaround):

first I tried to add a second SMTP server with the address "smtp.mail.me.com", it seemed that the mail went through... but never arrived... then I configured "p01-smtp.mail.me.com" as second server and it worked!!

What is the problem with this workaround?

When you change the password! As it doesn't accept the Apple Token you must configure your Apple ID credentials manually... however when you change them, you have also to change the manually configured second SMTP server!

@GingerMan512 - I spent 3 hours at Apple Genius Bar yesterday. They wern't aware of a problem at fist and thought all my machines had a problem. They even offered to replace my iPhone!. It later became clear the problem was the servers. THe problem self resolved, but this morning I can't access my emails again. I spoke with Apple phone support and they told me they were aware of the problem and are looking for a solution. Since then, I've had intermitent access to my emails. Interestingly, I can send, but not receive emails from my iCloud account. VERY FRUSTRATING

After exhausting what might have been every other possible combination of actions, I created a completely new Apple ID, and following that, a new iCloud(.me) email from iOS on my iPhone 4. Mail now seems to be functioning. Originally I was using the same Apple ID as when I first got an iPhone 3G, years ago.

So if creating a completely new Apple ID seems like a valid option, give that a try.

I set up iCloud as you have suggested (no manual intervention) but there is no mail data in the cloud when I go to its web site. This then does not allow for a sync with my iPad as it says I have an incorrect user name or password - not true. When I am on the iCloud web site and click on Mail, I get an error mesage that says "Cannot Load Mail". Then it asks if I want to "Report to Apple" or "Close Mail". Any help would be appreciated.

Firstly, The "It just works" Apple have been saying, hasn't been working since they released OS X Lion. This is the worst OS ever launched by Apple because is incomplete, lost the perfect consistency it used to have, and it does not perform as well.

I am really dissappointed in Apple since Lion. I don't why or who made the decisions to change a lot of things that weren't supposed to be changed. It affected a lot of people.

Anyways, I know Mail is not supposed to be setup. I used to have it with my Gmail account since I bought my Mac. But obviously as my thread says, it is not working. I have this notification popping up and I don't know how to get rid of it and make it work. It just don't let me send messages. The same notification pops everytime I hit send.

I would really appreciate it if someone help me resolve this issue. I can't figure it out, and haven't found a solution anywhere.

I've just updated to iOS 5 on iPhone 4, and made an iCloud account. I turned on Mail in the iCloud settings, and then created a .me email address. When I try a Mail send/receive from iOS I get the get error: Cannot Get Mail, The user name or password for "iCloud" is incorrect. And from PC, web-based iCloud, when I click on mail I get the error: Cannot Load Mail, Try Again//Report to Apple//OK.

Does an Apple employee know how to get this working??

I have the same problem. Installed all updates needed, then sat up an account that worked fine without any problems. But later changed my mind on the name of the email and decided to make a new one. And this is where all the problems started to appear. Don't undersdand why. I can access everything except mail. It means that all the configurations were done right.

Any suggestions on how to solve an issue?

I recently set up a new iCloud me.com email address and have no problem revieving email or sending it out (when i'm at icloud.com), but when I try to send an email out through my iPhone I get an error message. "p05-smtp.mail.me.com"

Can someone please help me with this? I tried all the procedures stated in the discussions but nothing works. I can't send mail from my iPhone.

Thanx.
