I can't send emails with me.com in Mail app (iCloud)

So I set up my iCloud account and it did so automatically. The problem is that I cannot send emails from Mail app. I can do it if I go to iCloud.com though.

When I try to send a message, there is a notification saying: "The server “p08-smtp.mail.me.com” cannot be contacted on the default ports." I attached a picture below so you can see it exactly.

How can I solve this issue. When I first setup iCloud, it didn't let me recieve messages. Now, it doesn't let me send messages. Is there a solution? Is it something I have to setup manually? or is it something Apple would have to fix on their side?

I have tried to edit the SMTP server but have no luck. When I click on the Connection Doctor, it says the connection is SUCCESSFUL. I just don't know what is going on

I'm just posting this as I did for all these threads for the same issue:

Ok I think this problem here is Apple... It's a DNS problem. You get this problem depending on what smtp server you are registered on.

I always get the message that "p06-smtp.mail.me.com" failed...

But according to the nslookup command there are only the servers "p01, p02, p03, p04"... no p05 and p06 or p07 and p08 ...

What I did to get it to work (only considered as workaround):

first I tried to add a second SMTP server with the address "smtp.mail.me.com", it seemed that the mail went through... but never arrived... then I configured "p01-smtp.mail.me.com" as second server and it worked!!

What is the problem with this workaround?

When you change the password! As it doesn't accept the Apple Token you must configure your Apple ID credentials manually... however when you change them, you have also to change the manually configured second SMTP server!

I have a similar problem - posted this elsewhere, but it seems better to include it in this thread...

Now I seem to have two Apple IDs: one with just my username, and one with my username@me.com

They do have different passwords, but neither password seems to allow Mail to check for new messages from my me.com address. The one which OUGHT to work with the username@me.com allows me to log in to iCloud just fine, so I am very confident that I know my password. I just can't convince mail that I have got it right!

I note that the set up advice is to have incoming mail from imap.mail.me.com, but mine has been automatically set to p99-imap.mail.me.com

Is this relevant?

Or is this just one of those little glitches that happens when new things are being tested by millions of users all over the world, and I just need to be patient?

Many thanks,

Sue
