Problems with IOS 5 Music App

There are several problems with IOS5 Music app that I noticed, (These problems were not present in previous IOS)

1. Slower loading for songs with lyrics - There is a slight (1~1.5) second delay in bringing up new album art/lyrics/etc when switching songs. The way it delays feels very unstable like the app is about to crash.

2. Graphical glitch when loading some songs with lyrics - The area between the section with the progress bar/repeat/shuffle button is and the section with the lyrics become screwed up, the album art and overlay effect in that area become distorted. This goes off when lyrics is turned off by tapping on the screen then bringing it back up. However the problem persists when track is changed.

3. Unnatural scrolling of lyrics - Scrolling lyrics (especailly when I do it fast) feels buggy.

4. CRASHES with some Apple Lossless tracks that causes the springboard to respring - the app crashes with some Apple Lossless tracks. I do not know what is causing the crash. The file is fully tagged with lyrics/albumart. It seems to load and then it lags then crashes. The track played fine in previous versions (4.1 and 4.3.5). I can assure you that there is nothing wrong with the file.

5. Apple Lossless tracks very slow to load - Those tracks are just generally slower when loading and the problem with lyrics gets even more severe if the track is Apple Lossless.

*Most of those problems occur in greater severity for Apple Lossless than mp3 files.

Very unhappy about this update at the moment. What's the point of adding all new features if it cant handle the very crucial component...

iPod touch, IOS 5.

I have a master playlist for my 4G touch that contains 4698 items...it's slow to load, about 2-3 seconds, but it doesn't hang...then again I haven't hit the 5K mark yet.

It didn't take this long to load the playlist in iOS 4. It's strange the things they break when updating the software. I'll take this over the jittery scrolling problem I had with iOS 3 on my 1G touch.

My "Music" app was acting up this morning. It would take about 10 seconds if I selected another song or a menu. Now it crashed completely and it won't even start! Not only that, when ever I got a message, an email or a notification and I was listening to music, the volume would go down and the notification sound would play. Now that doesn't work. I checked and the phone wasn't on vibrate. That notification center doesn't work either. When I get messages or emails nothing pops up or a banner shows up. nothing. They didn't test this iOS 5 before releasing it?

Hi Forum, yes the Music App is a bit of a disaster and looking elsewhere this has been an issue through beta testing as well - so why release the update?

Firstly when updating my Itouch to IOS5 all my apps were kept but wiped all my music. Re synced music and then some albums just wouldn't play. Slow scrolling in album view then crashes after a few seconds. Have done all the resets previously mentioned but no change. As a musician I need this to be just as it was in ios4 so I will just have to try and reinstall the previous OS and waste even more time.

I tried running a recovery on my ipod to see what happens.

What happened is that the alphabetical ordering thing on the right side of the screen when viewing artist/album/song list is now all messed up. I use Korean version of Itunes and ipod and the korean letters display english songs and english alphabets indicate korean songs. Its ridiculous... (This has always been a bit of issue but it never have been this badly screwed up in the past as I recall...)

Another annoying thing is that, now that they separated video and music app, when I watch video, going to lock screen stops playback and puts video app on hold... sometimes I dont really need video and just want to listen to the audio stream... this is really annoying...

but lagging music app is the most annoying thing...

These were all working perfectly fine in 4.3.5... what happened Apple??

I have the new iOS 5 software on my iPhone 4 and I've noticed my playlists aren't sorting the way the are in

iTunes.

I have 1 custom playlists that I use mainly.

In iTunes, I have these list sorted by descending date added.

On the device, they're showing up as ascending date added.

I've tried adding/deleting songs, removing/adding the lists from the sync, but none of it worked.

Any suggestions?

I'm having problems with the IOS5 Music app, too! At first it wouldn't play anything from my playlists, but would play songs if selected individually. It was also skipping ahead, to the next song, randomly - when I hit "play" on the song I selected. It would also play a song while showing the artwork and info for a different song. I also had a drastic increase of "other" space on my phone (went up to 3.3 Gb) after I installed IOS5 - had to delete a couple things before it would finish installing, even though I had 2.8 Gb of free space prior to installing IOS5. Last night I did, as was suggested in the forum, uncheck the "sync music" button in iTunes and then sync my iPhone (3GS - 16 Gb model), which removed all my music. I then rechecked the button, and it took forever to add the music (6.2 Gb) back onto my iPhone. It also - thanfully - reduced the "other" space to 0.65 Gb, for which I was thankful. I did a few trial runs and thought it was working OK earlier this morning. Now, however, the Music app either takes a very long time to start, or won't even start when I try to use it. How frustrating! I guess most of these "symptoms" have already been described by others, but I just thought I'd chime in and add that I'm experiencing the same frustrations. Any help would be appreciated.
