Problems with IOS 5 Music App

There are several problems with IOS5 Music app that I noticed, (These problems were not present in previous IOS)

1. Slower loading for songs with lyrics - There is a slight (1~1.5) second delay in bringing up new album art/lyrics/etc when switching songs. The way it delays feels very unstable like the app is about to crash.

2. Graphical glitch when loading some songs with lyrics - The area between the section with the progress bar/repeat/shuffle button is and the section with the lyrics become screwed up, the album art and overlay effect in that area become distorted. This goes off when lyrics is turned off by tapping on the screen then bringing it back up. However the problem persists when track is changed.

3. Unnatural scrolling of lyrics - Scrolling lyrics (especailly when I do it fast) feels buggy.

4. CRASHES with some Apple Lossless tracks that causes the springboard to respring - the app crashes with some Apple Lossless tracks. I do not know what is causing the crash. The file is fully tagged with lyrics/albumart. It seems to load and then it lags then crashes. The track played fine in previous versions (4.1 and 4.3.5). I can assure you that there is nothing wrong with the file.

5. Apple Lossless tracks very slow to load - Those tracks are just generally slower when loading and the problem with lyrics gets even more severe if the track is Apple Lossless.

*Most of those problems occur in greater severity for Apple Lossless than mp3 files.

Very unhappy about this update at the moment. What's the point of adding all new features if it cant handle the very crucial component...

iPod touch, IOS 5.

together with iOS 5 Music.app on iPad doesn't support audiobook chapters and Since iOS5 audiobooks only play a chapter at a time. It would appear that Apple Software Engineering assigned a small team in training to develop a new Music app for the iPad and they didn't have sufficient supervision. Normally a product manager has a checklist of features and functionality for a product element such as the Music app on the iPad and then Q/A verifies that the product of engineering meets the requirements.

There's just so much totally wrong with the Music app that it must have been ignored by the usual processes that ensure excellence of design and engineering at Apple. Almost as if no one really gave a darn but that's so un-Apple like -;)

I have solved the problems I am having. I re-synced music wirelessly and (touch wood) artwork problems appear solved. Let's hope and pray this lasts.

The second problem I was having, that music is sorted by album artist, so soundtracks and compilations are harder to group with the artist's own albums, is solved too. In "Settings", click "Music", and switch off "Group By Album Artist". I then had to switch the iPhone off and on again, but it's fixed.

Worked for me too, using a 3GS.

Seriously re-sync my iPod touch doesn't seem to solve any issues for Music app on iOS 5. I can't even listen to music over a long period of time because of the Music app keeps crashing and even displays multiple duplicates of my albums while iTunes shows only one of each of my albums as normal. Can somebody help me? M using a PC (Windows 7).

That's something I didn't have. I had problems with alphabet shot-cuts unmatching with the list.

Try running recovery on your device so it cleans out data. Then don't sync and disconnect.

go to settings on ipod and change system language to English then reboot the device by turning it off then back on.

Then sync it via itunes.

For me this solved the listing problems, althouh the album-art glitch is still present.

Yes, i've tried re-sync or un-sync with or without playlists over 7 times and nothing works, my iPod is still messed up like you said. And yes, i counted every single time!!! Seems like Apple doesn't care for iPod touch anymore. Geez, we JUST have to wait for a new version of iOS 5, like another whole month at the least. it's like begging Apple for using their softwares and still pay for them. Customer satisfaction is reduced to zero % for me!!!

Strange, already read everything here and my problem with Music App (related to iOS5) seems to be different than yours.

The only problem that I'm experiencing is that when I tilt the iPod to select the Album Cover, the covers start to appear very slow and when I start to navigate through it, it simply freeze and crash. So when I'm listening music now, I have to get out of the Music App just in case of tilting the iPod and avoid crashing.

Any suggestions?

I already restored it twice!

i understand what u're saying. it's true what u said might help but i've tried everything and nothing works okay. So the best solution is to lock rotation and listen in portrait mode...god i really love and reeeeeeaaaaallly miss the coverflow. Anyway, i can listen to music but still shows duplicates both in portrait mode and in coverflow unless i delete them manually (by that i mean one by one and yes it's so very IRRITATING!!!) Oh yeah, whenever i put it in coverflow and as i slide foward (very glitchy and slowy and sluggish and full of errors) it crashes and revert back to the homescreen! This, i think, is the BIGGEST PROBLEM, i mean Apple launched iOS 5 equipped with problems. Which raised a question: What is an iPod (touch) without music???

I have the same issue but it seems the work around (that I found worked) was to delete the album off of your phone's music app and then re-sync and it will be added back. That seems to work. On another subject, when I upgraded to iOS5, my phone's capacity was chewed up by 6 GB...wow! I only have 14 GB and over 6 GB is listed as "Other".
