Problems with IOS 5 Music App

There are several problems with IOS5 Music app that I noticed, (These problems were not present in previous IOS)

1. Slower loading for songs with lyrics - There is a slight (1~1.5) second delay in bringing up new album art/lyrics/etc when switching songs. The way it delays feels very unstable like the app is about to crash.

2. Graphical glitch when loading some songs with lyrics - The area between the section with the progress bar/repeat/shuffle button is and the section with the lyrics become screwed up, the album art and overlay effect in that area become distorted. This goes off when lyrics is turned off by tapping on the screen then bringing it back up. However the problem persists when track is changed.

3. Unnatural scrolling of lyrics - Scrolling lyrics (especailly when I do it fast) feels buggy.

4. CRASHES with some Apple Lossless tracks that causes the springboard to respring - the app crashes with some Apple Lossless tracks. I do not know what is causing the crash. The file is fully tagged with lyrics/albumart. It seems to load and then it lags then crashes. The track played fine in previous versions (4.1 and 4.3.5). I can assure you that there is nothing wrong with the file.

5. Apple Lossless tracks very slow to load - Those tracks are just generally slower when loading and the problem with lyrics gets even more severe if the track is Apple Lossless.

*Most of those problems occur in greater severity for Apple Lossless than mp3 files.

Very unhappy about this update at the moment. What's the point of adding all new features if it cant handle the very crucial component...

iPod touch, IOS 5.

I have solved the problems I am having. I re-synced music wirelessly and (touch wood) artwork problems appear solved. Let's hope and pray this lasts.

The second problem I was having, that music is sorted by album artist, so soundtracks and compilations are harder to group with the artist's own albums, is solved too. In "Settings", click "Music", and switch off "Group By Album Artist". I then had to switch the iPhone off and on again, but it's fixed.

it seems to be gone but this helped me with artists not showing up

Think I found a solution. Nest your smart playlist requirements within an overall requirement for "Playlist is Music."

To get the little button to show up to alllow nested criteria, press the option/alt key.

This also allowed me, after clicking the column with track numbers in iTunes, to drag/drop my songs in an order I preferred and show up correctly on the iPhone 4 (iOS 5). I did right click on the playlist and selected "Copy to play order" but forgot to test prior to selecting this.

Oh yeah! Cracked the "code"!

Had the same problem on my 4th gen shuffle (version 1.2). Added the "Playlist is Music" as the top level criteria, twiddled a little with the playlist in iTunes to include copying to play order, and all is good.

Now for the jams!

Just remember this: every version brings its own issues. It's up to us to figure these out and move on. Would you rather use a zune? Hehehehe......

I'm also having similar problems with the changes I make to my songs. For some reason, the changes are just gone, when before the update it worked just fine.

The only difference b/w our problems is that I noticed this when I had my iPod plugged in to my computer to recharge it, and I played songs from iPod through my computer. But, when I clicked on a song to play, the changes I made to that song from before just undid itself. Then I checked my iPod and the changes were also gone, moreover I'm even unable to play the song. It just skipped over to the next song. I've never had this problem before. and i don't sync my music so the unsyncing solution won't work for me. I hope someone finds a solution soon because this is very frustrating.

I updated to iOS 5 on my iPod and am having the same problem that everyone else here is having. I bring up the music app and it hangs for about 10 seconds, then fails. I've re-synced many times after removing album art and some times after the resync, the music app does work, but only for a short time. It is constantly crashing now. I find it very troubling that the initial intent of this device (music) was competely overlooked or ignored. Hopefully this is fixed soon!!!
