Problems with IOS 5 Music App

There are several problems with IOS5 Music app that I noticed, (These problems were not present in previous IOS)

1. Slower loading for songs with lyrics - There is a slight (1~1.5) second delay in bringing up new album art/lyrics/etc when switching songs. The way it delays feels very unstable like the app is about to crash.

2. Graphical glitch when loading some songs with lyrics - The area between the section with the progress bar/repeat/shuffle button is and the section with the lyrics become screwed up, the album art and overlay effect in that area become distorted. This goes off when lyrics is turned off by tapping on the screen then bringing it back up. However the problem persists when track is changed.

3. Unnatural scrolling of lyrics - Scrolling lyrics (especailly when I do it fast) feels buggy.

4. CRASHES with some Apple Lossless tracks that causes the springboard to respring - the app crashes with some Apple Lossless tracks. I do not know what is causing the crash. The file is fully tagged with lyrics/albumart. It seems to load and then it lags then crashes. The track played fine in previous versions (4.1 and 4.3.5). I can assure you that there is nothing wrong with the file.

5. Apple Lossless tracks very slow to load - Those tracks are just generally slower when loading and the problem with lyrics gets even more severe if the track is Apple Lossless.

*Most of those problems occur in greater severity for Apple Lossless than mp3 files.

Very unhappy about this update at the moment. What's the point of adding all new features if it cant handle the very crucial component...

iPod touch, IOS 5.

I have similar issues, after restoring when I start the music app and select a track the audio quality is horrible and full of cracks, when I select a playlist (the one I clicked on has 1900 songs) and try to play a song, it completely freezes and I can't get the app to work until I restore my iPod, but the crackling noises continue. Never had any issues before, except for some swapped cover art or music being recognized as "other" on iTunes. Also the order of the songs completely changed. I hope there is a fix for those problems soon

Just want to add my voice to the crowd: The new Music App on the iPad is a serious step backward in terms of functionality, ease of use, and aesthetically. The old iPod app (have no objection to the name change, btw) was one of the best music apps ever written, close to par with the superb Sonos iPad app. I do not say this casually - Apple should bring back the old one and work furture improvement from there.

Taking of the limit of the smart playlist solved my problem. initially the playlist took a long time to open in the music app. shuffle took more time. after stopping the music app, the music app would not start up again, closing itself after about 20s. this must be because music is trying to open the last playlist and it times out before the playlist is ready.

taking off the limit, makes the playlist load faster and music app doesn't time out.

hope the next release will be here soon. i want my old playlist back!

Well after a failed attempt at trying to downgrade back from iOS 5 to the last iOS 4. something. Never going through something scary like that again... felt like I almost broke my iPod with it going to a black screen and printing out code of some sort X_X.

Anyway, I share everyone's concern with the music app being messed up. Although the slow interface and loading is an issue, I can live with it until they release the next iOS with patches to fix it hopefully. What I can't live with is what the original poster stated correctly about any file connected with album art more than 3000 by 3000 will crash the iPod as it gets quite annoying as I'm walking and my iPod just crashes while listening to music.

So seeing as going back to iOS 4 isn't much of an option and looking through every song which has album art work that is 3000 by 3000 pixels then deleting em would be too much of pain. I was wondering if anyone knew whether there was an option to sync music but not sync the associated album artwork. That way when loaded into the iPod, it just shows the black itunes logo screen instead for every song?

Please and thank you!

Well, I took Rich's suggestion and removed all the music from my iPod, and then re-synced the music again - basically, completely re-loaded all my songs to the iPod.

It worked - all the songs play again, and the ID glitches are gone - but I'm still pretty peeved that I had to do that. The re-syncing took about 4 hours (I have almost 4000 songs on my iPod) and really there's no excuse for the app to be that messed up.

If this is a sign of things to come now that Jobs isn't around anymore, I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in Apple's long-term future. An occasional glitch is one thing; the entire music app being screwed up on a device that's supposed to play flawlessly in unacceptable. As is Apple's continued silence on the subject.

Maybe their new slogan should be: "Apple. It just doesn't work. And frankly, we have your money already so we really don't care."

Hi there, ppl.

I also experience troubles like skipping songs and random cover deleting. I've read that re-checking "sync" in "Music" may solve the problem. But i've never used this option (was adding/deleting songs manually) and, therefore, that option is unchecked now. So, my questions are: should i still try to re-sync my ipod? There is no chance to lose all my music? Or i'd better wait for an update?

Thanks for reading and (i hope) answering! =)

Sry for double-posting, but the button "edit" and additional text just disappeared after editing previous post.

----------------------

Btw, i think, i found some interesting details about skipping songs. I've added an album to my library, amplified it with one more song (song x, for example), sent the whole album on my ipod, assigned ONE cover for the album (with "shift) and then tried to play it on ipod. All tracks were playable, except that song x! So i deleted it and just added again to the ipod as a single. And it worked! It's still in that album, but playable. But if you try to change the cover for that song, it'll be skipped again.

Hope that info will help some people

Same problem here: After I purchase a track from iTunes, if I make any change or addition to the track info (genre, title, composer, etc) on my Macbook, the new info does not sync properly on my iPod Touch (I have the 4G). The following will happen on the iPod:

1) The track duplicates itself: one listed with the original iTunes info, one with the changes I manually made

OR

2) The changes/additions do not even show up at all

OR

3) The track duplicates itself even without the changes being applied. I've seen tracks self-multiply on my lists 4 times, one for each time I re-synced

No consistent solution in sight. Sometimes I have to remove the track from my library, reload it, and then it's hit or miss whether or not it even shows up again on the iPod. Sometimes powering off and restarting the iPod will make it work after re-syncing, sometimes it won't. Sometimes the purchased track will disappear entirely from the "Purchased" tab on the iPod. The listing returns to normal when I revert to exactly the original info provided by iTunes, but then that nullifies any attempt to change/add info to the track.

What's the point of the "one-button" sync function if you have to manually go through 5-10 steps each and every time you want to actually apply a change of info to a track? Any suggestions or short-cuts or magic wands out there?

The iOS 4.3.5 worked perfectly smoothly before.

Hi all

Same problem here - ever since upgrading to iOS5 the music app on my iPad 2 and iPhone 4 just crashes on opening or very shortly afterwards. I have about 7000 songs and numerous smart playlists and who knows how much album art that is bigger than the constraints mentioned here - I sure as **** am not going to start trying to delete and/or edit playlists or album art - Apple SORT THIS OUT NOW!.

As an interesting note, my grilfriend and housemate who have much simpler (i.e. no smart playlists) and smaller libraries are not experiencing any of these problems so that is consistant with what is being said elsewhere here.

And i have removed all the music during sync and re-synced it to no avail.

aaaargh!
