Problems with IOS 5 Music App

There are several problems with IOS5 Music app that I noticed, (These problems were not present in previous IOS)

1. Slower loading for songs with lyrics - There is a slight (1~1.5) second delay in bringing up new album art/lyrics/etc when switching songs. The way it delays feels very unstable like the app is about to crash.

2. Graphical glitch when loading some songs with lyrics - The area between the section with the progress bar/repeat/shuffle button is and the section with the lyrics become screwed up, the album art and overlay effect in that area become distorted. This goes off when lyrics is turned off by tapping on the screen then bringing it back up. However the problem persists when track is changed.

3. Unnatural scrolling of lyrics - Scrolling lyrics (especailly when I do it fast) feels buggy.

4. CRASHES with some Apple Lossless tracks that causes the springboard to respring - the app crashes with some Apple Lossless tracks. I do not know what is causing the crash. The file is fully tagged with lyrics/albumart. It seems to load and then it lags then crashes. The track played fine in previous versions (4.1 and 4.3.5). I can assure you that there is nothing wrong with the file.

5. Apple Lossless tracks very slow to load - Those tracks are just generally slower when loading and the problem with lyrics gets even more severe if the track is Apple Lossless.

*Most of those problems occur in greater severity for Apple Lossless than mp3 files.

Very unhappy about this update at the moment. What's the point of adding all new features if it cant handle the very crucial component...

iPod touch, IOS 5.

I have iOs 5 and I'm have problems with the music app also. When I add music thru my iTunes into my iPhone it doesn't list the albums correctly. The genres are all messed up and the album names. Even if I change the tag info thru my iTunes the problem is still not corrected. It's not sorted right...please help!

Click on the link above your post, follow the directions.

I use all smart playlists as well. I got my new 4s on Friday and set it up. At first it worked ok, then started to slow and eventually become uneusable. After a few hours the entire music app would crash when I tried to load it. I couldn't use it at all. I called Apple Tech Support yesterday and they instructed me to reset the phone to factory settings and start it as a new phone. All my songs etc were still there, and the music ap worked much quicker. I've had to do that every day I've had the phone, which is just insane. Over the course of the day, the app becomes less and less functional until it crashed everytime I try to load it. The only reason I ordered teh 32 gb instead of the 16 was to add more music, and it just is an awful product. I'll try the 'limit to' workaround, but I actually use that field to control the size of the playlist. Maybe I'll split my smart lists up into multiple single lists, instead of one big one with multiple fields.

This is absurd.

Is there any one particular song or playlist that causes the problem? It could be a corrupted file. Might be worth doing a little dectective work...eliminating various albums, songs, etc. that seem to be an issue.

Also, do you happen to have any cover artwork that's larger than 500 x 500 pixels? I've read on a number of threads that this can cause the Music App trouble like you're experiencing.

Agreed...very frustrating condisdering the iPod App worked fine. I expect Apple will update it, but until then...

Hey All

I've been having these problems for a week or so now, and after reading all the comments here and noting that my girlfriend's and housemate's music apps worked fine, I suspected it had to be the smart playlists (as they have none). So I resynced my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 with the entire music library but none of the smart playlists and voila - the music app on both devices now worked fine.

So that explains the problem but still leaves us in a totally unacceptable position - Apple how long do we have to wait for a fix to this massive bug in ios5!?!?

Cheers

Evan

Did you happen to try deleting and re-syncing all music prior to that? Just curious if that would have done it or if it is indeed Smart Playlists causing the trouble. After deleting and resyncing all of my music things were fine and I'm using some Smart Playlists, so just curious.

Glad things are working though...congrats! Hopefully Apple will address this soon!

Thanks for the reply. I'm sure I have some artwork larger than 500x500pixels. I just use google images to paste album artwork for the albums that iTunes can't find.

I basically have a jazz playlist, a playlist for songs I haven't rated yet, and then one giant playlist of 4 and 5 star songs, sorted by least recently played. I've been using this same set of playlists for six years, ever since my iPod Mini. I've never had any problems with them until now. Very perplexing.

I'll do a little digging, maybe take the smart playlists off for a few days, and see if that fixes the issue, after my next reset, of course.

I deleted and re-synced and the same problem happened again. Definitely not a re-syncing issue. I thought it might be related to wireless syncing. I noticed the app COMPLETELY fell apart yesterday as I pulled out of the driveway. I keep my phone plugged in in the car, and I saw that it started trying to wirelessly sync as I opened the garage door to pull out.
