I noticed most of those posts were in Decemeber, probably around Christmas time when everyone just got new ipods and ipads. The networks were probably overwhelmed but here it is March 8th and I have a brand new Ipad 2, I just bought it today (which is getting replaced with the new ipad on the 16th, but I'm having the same issues everyone else was having. No firewall, no antivirus or anything blocking my connection in any manner it just keeps saying Download was corrupted, disconnect and reconnect and try again. I'm going to just download the update and save it to my hard drive then shift restore it next to see if that helps. I'll be back if that fails. Maybe someone has found a solution to this issue. Oh it's a 32gig ipad2. I had a 16gig ipad2 but needed more space, didn't have any problems updating that one. In fact, it came out of the box updated... this one apparently is not. I'm getting a 64gig in 8 days, I hope that doesn't cause even ore problems. My iPod Touch 4g updated just fine. It took forever and I'm on a 50mb down and 5mb up network so I don't understand why Apple server's are so slow! Surely they can't be, being taxed from over use on a Thursday at 5:30 when the new ipad isn't even out yet? Then again, I just keep getting the same error so maybe they are swamped right now, I have no way of knowing. Pinging appears fine, no packet loss, no delay but downloading is taking extremely long. Like I said I'll be back with an update if it fails again. Sorry this was no help to anyone but if you are on a PC you can save the update to your hard drive then hold shift, then click restore and point it to the saved update on your hard drive (i always use my desktop so it's easier to find, then delete it after I'm done.) Yep there's the error again. Ok trying it the other way, be back.
Ok now I'm getting ERROR -50, continuing will result in a loss of all data on this ipad. Do you want to continue. Since it's brand new, I am guessing that it's ok to lose the data on it. I hated that ipod and bookshelf icon anyway that you couldn't remove. Maybe they are gone now. I'll let you know after the restore, if I can get to that point. Be back in a bit.
It did remove the ipod icon from the homescreen and now it appears to finally be working correctly. Even the cloud portion is working right. I don't know what was causing the issue so I'm sorry if I was no help, but I thought people should know it's still happening.
