Update to iOS 5 Signal Problems?

hi, i was wondering if anyone experienced some signal problems after ios 5 update? I did and when i was using the beta, it gave me full bars and never dropped calls but after i updated to the final version, my calls started to drop and text messages wouldn't send or recieve. Just wondering if anyone else notices this? I think that the iOS 5 Beta 7 is better then this final version..

I upgraded to iOS 5 two days after it dropped and everything was fine until about three days ago. One day my screen just went black while I was using it and I had to hard reset. Last night my phone dropped calls for about 20 min and I had a full signal. I've never had signal issues at my house since getting this phone a year ago. I reset the phone and it is still doing it today while I have three bars. They need to fix this ASAP.

I had and iPhone 4 for 2 months always had a signal then updated to iOS 5, my phone spent the next week looking for a signal. I took it to an apple store, they said there were not aware of a problem. They gave me a new phone it worked for a week fine so I updated it to iOS 5 Saturday, and now it spends most of its time looking for a signal, there is a problem and if apple cant sort it I will flog it on eBay and get something that actually works

same here: updated to ios 5 last week or so. firstly annoyed since despite back-up 900 photographs and all mp3s went missing, thus took some time to get them back on. this afternoon iphone 4 started losing the signal on and off with being in exactly the same place - i always had full signal at home and now nothing! momentarily a micro-tablet since only with wifi on of any use, but afterall it's supposed to be a phone! reset the device and also did a restore, but no change after wasting plenty of time. can't turn 3g off, since on "3" - looks like ringing apple tomorrow. looking forward to what i'll be told re: solving this matter...

Okay, if you goto:-

Settings>General>About>Diagnostics & Usage>Diagnostics & Usage Data>

Do other users with this problem have a lot of entries? (If not try turning on 3G again for a bit)

Here is an example of one of mine:-

deviceId: "33a34e3fcf34133d32a1e424680c20632529add7"

isAnonymous: true

deviceConfigId: 101

triggerTime: 1320238169871

triggerId: 524310

profileId: 10129

investigationId: 0

metricsCCBasebandReset {

reason: "Baseband Crash. State = Initialized"

inVoiceCall: false

rat: 1

PLMN: "23410"

timestamp: 1320238169871

}

Which would suggest the error is somthing to do with the baseband which if you search for it on google, is usally somthing that goes wrong when you attempt to jailbreak it. I assume that there must be an error in the ios 5 update file that is only affecting some of us.

Does this seem sensible to anyone else? Does anyone else have the same issue?

I'm calling apple tommorrow, I think this is enough evidece that the phone is fault rather than my network or lack of local reception.

Hey, that sounds like it could be the baseband, but i have recently updated my iPhone to the iOS 5.0.1 beta and the baseband stayed the same but not my signal is better again just like how it was before. I think it has something to most likely do with software and should effect most iphones and some people probably don't see it because they live in an area where th signal is probably extremely strong or they just don't really notice these stuff and thinks everything is the same! Right now the iOS 5.0.1 should be out within the next few weeks, so stay tune as it should fix your problems!

I have a 3GS with ATT, upgraded to ios5 on Oct 13th. Two days later I noticed that intermittently couldn't make/receive calls or texts. I switched airplane mode on and off and power cycled the phone. This would usually work for a few hours or a day before happening again. My signal bars would fluctuate slowly back and forth from normal to no service while this was happening. The problem sometimes occurs with and without bars. Also my my signal bars are generally much lower or there is no service in areas where there used to be strong service. I've spoken to ATT many times and they were useless.

I've tried each of the following one at a time to rule them out. Each time the phone works well for a few hours and then stops again:

restoring from backup

replacing sim card

deleting apps

switching wifi off

turning off icloud

The only thing that works consistently is turning off 3G. This makes the phone/texts work normally and signal bars return to normal but obviously the data speed is almost worthless.

I also have many entries under diagnostics and usage - btserver, latest crash, low memory, messages, etc. Is there one specifically I should look into? I've turned off reporting to Apple. Should I turn it back on and will it make any difference to them?

From what i've seen on the net , there is a 5.0.1 coming out soon , which hopefully sorts out this issue as well , of course , if the apple devs take into consideration the dropped calls/no service for a small number of devices as a problem 😉

I have also had this gread adventure of dropping calls at least once a week , as well as the amazing no service status , after upgrading my 3Gs to iOs5.

This is a major flaw with the iPhones , and i now regret getting one.

thanks I tried that but it didn't work. same result - after a few minutes the 3g connection stops working.

the phone does work when i switch the 3G network off though, although it's extremely slow for data. but at least i can get calls.

i spoke to apple help today and they said it must be the hardware, and if i want i can buy a new 3gs for $169. thanks for nothing apple.

queried re: ios5 bein cause of the issue, but was told it was a pure coincidence that my phone cudnt find a signal afta updatin. mind the same guy told me, that restorin the old phone's backup on the new one shudn't b a problem despite the different ios and wot can i say: it didnt work! itunes wudnt let me. had 2set up phone as new in order to apparently b able 2do it, but then was told 2update 2ios5 again - nooo...b4 i cud even say the latter, itunes had wiped my last backup (old phone) anyway and replaced it wiv a pretty blank one.

took a few hours and obviously lost data (rememba havin 2sign somethin in shop statin apple wont be made responsible for that)...
