Update to iOS 5 Signal Problems?

hi, i was wondering if anyone experienced some signal problems after ios 5 update? I did and when i was using the beta, it gave me full bars and never dropped calls but after i updated to the final version, my calls started to drop and text messages wouldn't send or recieve. Just wondering if anyone else notices this? I think that the iOS 5 Beta 7 is better then this final version..

I had the same problem updating my 3gs to ios 5. Tried everything possible suggested in this and other forums, but nothing no signal working.

At the apple store the didn't know about this problem, or maybe they minimized it. Anyway I got lucky, my 3gs was still on warranty and I got a new one but they suggested me to not upgrade.

It's unbelieveble that there is no possibility of downgrade, this is not a good score for apple.

I tried for a bit the ios 5 and there are new good features, but I'm scared of trying againg.

Let's hope with the next release that should fix some bugs

i tried everything too. it would work for a while after each fix (restore etc), and pick up the 3G network, but after a while (sometimes hours, sometimes minutes) it would stop working on the 3G network. calls, texting and internet - nothing would work on 3G. the phone worked if I switched 3G off, which is fine for calls and sms, but way too slow for data.

apple finally gave me a new phone with the old OS on it. They still won't admit there's a problem, or don't know exactly what it is, i'm guessing because this issue is not effecting a lot of users.

I too am scared to upgrade to iOS5 because I don't want to risk going through not being able to use my phone again. I need it for work/life too much for it not to be able to pick up a 3G signal.

What seemed to set the problem going for me was using the new notification center panel in the iOS5. I presume that feature constantly connects to the internet to be updated, so maybe that was what caused my 3G signal to fail. Anybody else notice that? It seemed to be the trigger for my signal issues.

I am having the same problem for the last 3 weeks. it first started when i went to apple to get a new iphone 4 because i broke my front glass. when i got home i update to ios 5 which work for a few days then it started the searching and no service loop. i went back to apple and they were cool enough to give me a new phone free. they said it was the sim card which i went that day to replace it at at&t store. went home update the iphone 4 to my surprise it happen again the loop cycle. went back to apple and they give me another iphone 4 but they were not acknowledging any problem with ios 5. i waited a few days before updating my iphone like the apple guy said. then did the update did it as a new iphone and did not turn on cloud everything in my phone was turned off that i thought was causing it. that work for about a week and then it happen again. just a few days ago my wifes iphone 4 is doing the same thing. the only thing that works is turning off your cellular data. it has not gone to the loop cycle since but you will not be able to use your 3g and your apps outside of a wifi connection. the app games you can use, texting works fine and phone call works fine. cant send pictures or receive. even over wifi. other then that my phone works fine. hoping apple fixs this issue.

Well, after about 12 days of using my phone without a problem, the problem I described earlier where the cell phone was constantly searching for a signal reappeared. This time however, I found an immediate solution.

The problem occurs when I power up the phone with the "cell data" option set to "off."

The solution is to turn "cell data" back "on," until the signal is found, and then to turn "cell data" back to "off."

The signal says found until the next time I power on the phone.

I was having the same problem then decided to try to make a call while the phone was "searching" and after a couple of seconds, m-cell showed at the top of the phone and the signal bars went to full and the phone dialed out with a clear signal. I did the same thing when I had just one bar away from the m-cell and the signal increased and had a clear conversation. Give it a try!

No luck chaps , prob is still here , even after the latest update. Today my phone went into 'searching' only mode and got stuck like that , which is a new one for me.

Tried the usual stuff , call a number , disable 3g , reset network , restart , and only when all combined , i managed to get my network back 😟

I believe no changes have been made to the baseband since 4.3.3 , so it must be a OS bug ?

Hey all. Well I have tried everything. Have restored everything numerous times, turned off location settings, turned off I cloud, new sim card, replaced battery( even though i never had battery issues),replaced case as I thought it may be a problem with the antenna, set up as new phone. As I am typing this my 3GS is sooooo sluggish. Can press three to four buttons until they pop up on the screen( very jerky). When I go to diagnostics, it has a massive amount of awdd reports and low memory, yet I restored all last night and have no songs on there. About 10gig free. I also make sure I have minimal programs running so the ram being use should be low.

I get the constant signal loop problem all the time. Been a while now since I have had a call that hasn't failed.

I'm going to the apple store tomorrow. I want ios5 gone and back to 4.3!!!!

This is a very poor operating system and even if it's only a minority of people getting this problem, Apple needs to address this ASAP!!! I need my phone to work thanks!!!!

hi,

I have an i phone 4 updated to ios 5 and everything worked fine until yesterday when i updated to ios 5.0.1 since then i keep loosing my signal, i have rebooted, restored, 3/4 times which has not worked and when i loose signal it will not come back unless i turn the phone off and back on then reception immediately returns. This is must be a problem with the ios 5.0.1 as my partner has the same phone with same provider(o2) and hers works fine sitting next to me with full bars!

i do remember now why i tried a blackberry after the iphone 3gs!!

i have rang my provider who are unaware of the problem and suggest i try my sim in another phone!! or wait til apple release a further update!
