My iMessage still says "Waiting for activation..."

Updated to iOS5 around noon today. My iMessage still says "Waiting for activation...", someone told me there was a email I was supposed to receive. I never got one. How do I get Apple to resend said email, or more to the point - activate iMessage on my Telus iPhone 4?

I have an iPhone 4s with Sprint and I have done everything I can think of, all the suggestions in this post and even taken it in to the genius bar and they said they heard something about that if your phone number has 4 0s in it then it is a know issue that the phone number will not activate for iMessage or FaceTime. That sounds very far fetched to me so has anyone else heard about this at all and can confirm this or is anyone else having this problem also have 4 0s in their phone number? I have not been able to find anything about it so I wanted to find out if this may be true because I felt like I was just blown off because it looks like there are a couple of issues with this.

Hi,

I was a wreck last 2 days as my iphone 4's motherboard was 'burnt' according to the technican at the shop due to my incessant use of sprays to clean the phone. Nevertheless, my hub and I continued to pray for a miracle where we prayed for the phone to come to life. My hub also asked me to go to another shop for a second opionion on the phone the next day. Miraculously, the technican said only my speaker was out of whack and the motherboard was perfectly fine. It didn't dawn on me it's a miracle from Jesus until my hub reminded me about our prayers as i initially thought the 1st technician made a wrong diagnosis. My hub told me there's no way some1 can make a mistake like that! Praise be to God! Pls pardon me as my intention was not to 'preach' here but to share what happend.

That said, I was ecstatic when my phone was back in working order. But i realised my imsg was not working no more. I googled n researchd n tried all options but to no avail 😟

I then tried to do a restore using itunes and it worked! It's simple. connect ur phone to itunes and click the restore button. You will be asked whether you want to back up your phone first and pls click yes. And when phone was restored in about 10 mins, I got the prompt to key in password for facetime and imsg which i did and imsg worked!

Hope this helps! 🙂

I'm not sure if you are experiencing the same problem that I had, however here was my issue and fix 😊

Imessage would be locked at waiting for activation and would route all imessages through an email I had associated with my apple ID. However i wanted it to route it through my phone number instead, which couldnt be inputted at all by any means that i tried and all the fixes id googled so far got me nowhere 😠.

When looking at the facetime settings, it showed me a phone number that it was trying to use to verify the activation. This was not my current phone number. It was trying to use the phone number i had recieved when i purchased my iphone (i had instead decided to transfer an older number to this device).

Therefore it was trying to verify the activation with an incorrenct number (maybe it doesnt even exist anymore) as it didnt authenticate my new telephone number with my device.

The fix?

Log into your apple id online and within the settings of your profile you are able to allocate your actual phone number to your apple id and then save these settings

The next time i looked at imessages or facetime settings, sure enough my current phone number was autoregistered and the 2 applications were verified. 😁

HOPE THIS HELPS! 🙂

I LITERALLY tried everything yall posted and as far as I could see nobody posted what ACTUALLY fixed it for me...I tried everything like i said and nothing worked until i went to settings>general>reset>reset network settings!!! did this and it WORKED =D Now like I said i tried all this stuff before i did this so maybe ALL of that PLUS this fixed it or maybe just resetting network can fix it without going through a hard reset so let me know if it does because I dont wanna try it all over again! haha BTW im using a SPRINT IPHONE 4S maybe my network works differently from GSM

If you live in the UK, your country code is 44. There is no UK area code 0208. The area code for London has been 020 since 22nd April 2000 followed by an 8-digit local number. The 8 must be part of your local number.

My iMessage still says "Waiting for activation..."
