Mine too. it took forever to backup and update my ipod touch 4g to the new ios 5. But everything seems sluggish after that. The touch screen experience seems to be a bit jittery and there are noticeable pauses when loading apps. Is this just my ipod or is ios5 just not up to the mark?

I don't want to downgrade to iOS 4.XXX, but a good iOS 5.1 for the iPod touch. On my iPhone 3GS also with 256MB of ram, iOS 5.1 is very smooth and fast. Why is the 5.1 update on the iPod touch 4G so terrible? I don't know if anybody from Apple read these discussions, but if so: Apple, You got to do something about these iOS 5.1 issue for the iPod touch.

Well the difference between the iPhone 3GS and the iPod Touch 4G is that the iPod is running the same amount of RAM on a display with twice the resolution. That means the apps run are bigger, and it becomes harder for the RAM to handle it. So basically, Apple was too cheap to put decent specs into the iPod touch, and now it can't even run Apple's own OS...

Now this is what Apple should have admitted to when they made this specific iPod Touch. Of all the Apple products I have owned. Apple iPod Classic 4 (20gb)and 5 (30gb) Generations, Apple iPod Touch 2 Generation (32gb) Apple iPad 2 Gen (64gb) and the latest Apple iPhone 4s. None of these products ever gave me problems like this latest iPod Touch. I purchased this iPod in July of 2011 and at first everything was great then the IOS 5 came out and my iPod Touch has never been the same. What I despise about Apple is that you are forced into Software updating yet, the RAM can't support this software.

I also found my itouch 4g running slow since the ios5 update. I tried deleting apps that we're taking up siginificant amounts of space and that seemed to help. Also making sure you don't have to many things running at the same time should speed it up slightly. I hope a fifth gen iPod touch is on its way this year.

I have the same problem, I'm using an app to monitor memory usage, and my free memory oscillates between 3 and 30 MB, I don't understand why I only have 30 MB of free memory out of 256MB if the only app is running is the one that monitors memory usage, I know that the operating system will use some of that memory, but there must be something wrong with iOS 5.1 because this is happening after I upgraded to this version. My ipod 4g is laggy and app's crash very frequently which is really annoying. I hope apple listens to unhappy customers because this is not what we paid for.

I had also this issue on my iPod touch 4G running on iOS 5.0.1-JBken...Than I tried to update to iOS 5.1, but WITHOUT backup!! that is very important. Dont forget to backup your SHSH blobs for later downgrade if you will want. For JBkers-dont worry, there is allready tetheret JB, I hope soon will be untethered. My iPod touch is now running fast like on iOS 4.x.x, its so simple-try this!! No more SB crashes, freezes after unlock, so laggy spotlight-I also had this problems on iOS 5.0.1

I hope I was helpful.

And for some repliers, PLEASE dont write here replies like - Try to double click home button and exit all apps. -

That knows everyone...

Please reply, if you recognize some enhancement on your iPod touch

I think I am not the only one who's still sceptical. I'd like to have iOS 5.1 but didn't like 5.0.1. I managed downgrading to 4.1 without blobs (don't ask me how, it just worked mysteriously). Sadly, most of my apps don't work anymore because they need 4.3 as a minimum.

- Is 5.1 stable enough?

- Does it shut down in under 2 secs?

- Does CoverFlow work properly?

- Does the battery serve for a minimum of 4 days - without shutting down in the nights - before charging again?

I would like to hear your experiences with iOS 5.1.

FOUND A WAY TO SPEED UP SIGNIFICANTLY!!!!!! RAM NEVER DROPS BELOW 90 MB!

Use Google to figure out any step you don't know how to do (especially for steps 1 & 2).

Step 1: Jailbreak 5.1 tethered or downgrade and jailbreak 5.0.1 untethered (5.0.1 is the preferable option)

Step 2: Install WidgetTask (optional) and Springtomize 2 (costs $3, but most of you will probably pirate it) from Cydia.

Step 3: Go into Springtomize 2 > Capabilities and turn "Custom Capabilities" on

Step 4: Turn all switches on except "Mulititasking"

Step 5: Go to Settings>Notifications>WidgetTask (at the very bottom) and turn on the "In Notification Center" switch.

Step 6: Respring.

Now multitasking will be disabled and your RAM will skyrocket. If you want to see the multitasking bar, swipe down notification center and it will be there in a widget. All of your recent apps will be there as normal, except that they will just not be running in the background.
