Mine too. it took forever to backup and update my ipod touch 4g to the new ios 5. But everything seems sluggish after that. The touch screen experience seems to be a bit jittery and there are noticeable pauses when loading apps. Is this just my ipod or is ios5 just not up to the mark?

did u do a Fresh Restore? and dont restore it from a backup, restore it as new ipod? if that doesnt help try turning off bluetooth (bluetooth is enabled by default), delete background apps (double click home for multitask, hold an app to delete it in the bar), clear safari cache, browsing history ect, untick everything in spotlight search (everything is ticked by default)

Settings > General > Spotlight Search, Even Rebooting can help.

i did this and it seemed to work a bit better- especially deleting backround apps+untick spotlight search.and i also rebooted

The same thing happend with my iPod Touch 4G 32GB AFTER the update to iOS 5. It unlocks slower than before. The Cover Flow in Music is lagging extreamly bad... I even resized my whole album covers to 500x500px so the A4 chip can read them better but again is awful... And even somethimes when I'm listening to a song THE WHOLE Music App crashes and I must start it again... The 720p videos are loading slower... When the iPod is locked and I press the HOME button twice i wait for minimum 2 seconds to wake up and bring my music controls... At first I thought that the iPod is filled with content and this is the reason for a slower speed but I've checked and I have a 10GB of free storage left so I don't think that is so much filled with music (etc.) I'm not satisfied at all... It's like I'm having an iPod Touch 2G than 4G... I don't know what's wrong... In fact, I have a friend that has an iPhone 4 and she says that her iPhone 4 16GB has improved his speed by 50% in her opinion... It's unbelieveble...

I hope Apple release an 5.0.1 update because at this point iOS 5 is quite unstable in my opinion...

Bought my iPod 8GB 4th Generation a few days ago. I was so happy. Turned it on, it was blazing fast, and as soon as I updated the os to ios 5, the dam thing became a fat slob. Slow as ****. I thought it was because I was almost at full capacity with music and apps so I took off a good 2 gb of music. The problem continued. Takes a good 8-15 seconds to get out of the lock screen, And takes 2-4 seconds for the typing to even show up on the screen. Scrolling through the menus are a joke. Some apps crash but thats because they haven't come up with an update for ios 5 yet. Camera shutter speeds are stupid. in the time it takes for me to take a picture with my ipod I could go to my room, whip out my camera and take 3 pics of anything. iMessage is a fun tool. The ios has amazing features but its all useless and annoying if its going to take over 10 seconds for anything to show up on screen. Apple! PLEASE GIVE US AN UPDATE TO MAKE OUR iPODS SMOOTH AND WORTH IT AGAIN, WE DONT WANT TO RETURN THEM BUT I DONT THINK WE CAN HANDLE A FEW MONTHS OF THIS CRAP!

Well, I have the 32gig iTouch. First of all, I lag typing on this website, and I'm still on 4.2.1. Just pointing that out.

You guys have to remember that apple has released the pre-release. It isn't official. And you know, it's still buggy! You guys have to be patient. I bet if I updated mine, it'd be great because I only use up half my memory. Even less. And everything does NOT lag. Maybe you guys need more memory, because I bet half of you have the 8gig iTouches.

First of all, I highly doubt that over half the people on this forum have 8GB iPod touches. I personally also have a 32GB iPod touch and only have 5GB of memory used up, no videos, just music and some apps. iOS 5 has caused many of these devices to become laggy, slow, and glitchy. I understand that all the bugs are not worked out but I strongly believe that this operating system was meant for devices with higher processing speed and that's why many iPod touches are laggy. No matter how much memory you have left on your iPod, it won't make your device run faster. What really counts is the processor speed and the instant random access memory, not the stored read only memory that you receive with higher capacity iPod touches. So please, don't come on this forum and start dissing everyone because iOS 5 doesn't run smoothly because of their lower gigabyte devices.

It is important to consider the number of people also trying to update their Apple products the same time as you. All the people connected at once will cause server lag. My OSX and iPod touch update both took longer than usual (longer than 1 hour).

The only part of the new OS5 I found slow was the WiFi, it takes a while for the iPod to connect to saved networks than pre-update.

SAME HERE, laggy on SAFARI, laggy on the newest versions of FACEBOOK, TWITTER, slow playing MUSIC, when playing INFINITY BLADE it seems to be in slow motion, I can't even write this cause of the massive lags I'm experimenting, What can we do? APPLE HEAR OUR PRAY: FIX THOSE BIG BUGS, we don't like this iOS 5, it was better before! Help!

Almost the same problem here it is laggier than when it had iOS4. I have the white ipod and I never thought iOS 5 would make it laggier or iCloud by any means. Kind of stupid and I hope Apple is aware of this so they can fix it in the future update or I'll just return it and hope I can find the black ipod with iOS4 at the store. I didn't upgrade from the 2nd gen ipod to deal with a new ipod that is laggy as well. Bullsh*t
