Mine too. it took forever to backup and update my ipod touch 4g to the new ios 5. But everything seems sluggish after that. The touch screen experience seems to be a bit jittery and there are noticeable pauses when loading apps. Is this just my ipod or is ios5 just not up to the mark?

For me iOS 5 is a huge disappointment on iPod 4 and iPad 2 for the following reasons:

(a) in iOS4.3.5 you could simply (re-) define any mp3 as podcast or audio book directly on your iPod and the device would play it in the same playlist the mp3 had been previously assigned to.

Now this has become impossible: first you need to drag your mp3s into iTunes, categorise them in iTunes as audiobook or podcast before you can upload them on your iPod. Why complicate our lives and waste our time?

(b) with iOS5 iPod 4 syncs extremely slow if you manage music and data manually via iTunes. I use an iMac RAMmed up to the full (16GB). Syncing via iTunes has become a nerve racking and time consuming endeavour, which I consider unfair to people spending quite a bit of money on Apple products.

(c) iPad 2 did perfectly well play videos in playlists with iOS 4.3.5. With iOS 5 this feature has been blown in the wind.

What is happening to Apple's flagship advantage of offering good, simple and reliable products?

I very much hope Apple are going to fix the issues soon.

Ye thats true, I feel like I have made a wrong decision choosing for apple this time (like I always choose for apple).

But it's still a great device.

Turning off iCloud and other new things that came with ios 5.0 helps to speed things up a lil, but still slow.

And its very lame that you have to shut down functions to let it run better.

This shouldnt be happening.

Please Apple, read this, and update the ios 5.0 so its right for iPod's.

Currently using a brand new iPod Touch 4G.

(My old iPod Touch 2G was faster).

I found what's causing the lag in iOS5. If you go to Settings > General > About > Scroll down to Diagnostics & Usage and if you actually chose to send diagnostics and usage to Apple, it'd show that the iPod Touch 4G is running low on memory on iOS5.. And iOS5 actually works faster on iPod Touch 3rd Gen so basically Apple should fix that memory optimization in iOS5.1 update

Since the first time I installed iOS 5 I was annoyed by the slugginess of my iPod Touch 4G, 8 GB with iOS 5 😢

Note that I never have enabled icloud.

I wanted to have a cool gadget with a new OS, and now I don't know what to do... I think I'll have to downgrade.

I use my iPod for making music with and now the latency is HORRIBLE in iOS 5. In iOS 4.xx everything was great!. Realtime music playing now is almost impossible in FLStudio when having a big song.

Even when writing a message, the ipod misses letters because of the slow processing speed.

When unlocking from a long off-period I always have to click TWO times the home button for waking it up. One click on the home button only works if the ipod has been freshly "turned sleep".

Dear Apple, PLEASE help us.

iPod 4 is a recent generation hardware and now it works like an old PC with windows vista.

The only problem i have with my ipod touch 4g is that its all ways running at low ram. Apple sould redesign the Multitasking feature, it very annoying that every app i open keeps multitasking untill it runs out of memory. the processing speed is also slower when too many programs are opened... and i hate the fact that you have to keep turning off programs one by one.

you can find out how your ipod touch is doing by going to ...

setting>general>about>diagnostics & usage.

it displasys the issues regaurding crashes and lowmem and maybe more bt i havent come accross any other yet.

soo far my ipod has been faster on ios5 comapired to ios 4. and the ipod touch 4 s performace is significantly faster comapired to iphone 4. ive tested on my friends iphone 4 , thats how i know. However i maybe wrong.

inconclution i believe that apple should redesign the multi-tasking platform. the current one is performance robbing unessesary feature...

iOS5 is pretty and stuff but not very functional, I mean when I'm listening to music on my iPod Touch 4G and I put the screen in sleep mode every single time I tap Home button it takes an eternity for it to show me the slide bar for unlock and another eternity so I can input the password :\ apps got a tiny bit slower too and the wi-fi connection got a bit affected too, sometimes my home router shows and connects others not even get listed o.O

Hiho! I think I've found a little aid to this annoying issue! I tried everything and comparing to how My iPod 4g was before this maneuver I think it got better in much aspects, it's faster and lags less.. What I did was "rebooting" my iPod, somebody posted it yesterday and it worked for me :) IN ORDER TO REBOOT YOUR DEVICE you have to follow thisspleenple steps: 1- Close all your apps and safari; disable your wi-fi

2- Press the Home and Power button (at the same time) until the APPLE logo appears, release, wait a few seconds and.. done!

Hope you find this useful

APPLE YOU GOTTA FIX ALL YOUR BUGS AND ISSUES RELATED TO iOS 5! IT JUST DON'T WORK FOR iPods and iPads!

AND HURRY CAUSE WE ARE LOSING PATIENCE...

So I'm obviously not the only person experiencing this problem. That's comforting, but I think we need to make Apple know that this is a big problem for a lot of people. We should all call them and tell them. That's the only way they are going to know that it needs to be fixed! I bet they don't even read these message boards, so we should all call them and just report it to them. Maybe then they will do something. I know it's not a lot of money to the peope who work at Apple, but I paid a lot of money for my iPod and I want it to work properly like it did when I bought it 4 months ago!
