Mine too. it took forever to backup and update my ipod touch 4g to the new ios 5. But everything seems sluggish after that. The touch screen experience seems to be a bit jittery and there are noticeable pauses when loading apps. Is this just my ipod or is ios5 just not up to the mark?

I'm running iOS 5 on a 64gb 4G iPod Touch. I like to scroll through all my music using the feature of tilting on the side an dgoing through the album art, but EVERY SINGLE TIME, no joke, 100%, I start scrolling through and it lags so bad that it stops and completely shuts out of the music app. And I've found lag issues with all other apps as well, if i do to much it just crashes the app, mainly with Music and Facebook. The iPod is NOT jailbroken, it's on the latest update, it's running iOS 5, and it's a complete piece of crap. Apple, please fix this, I like to listen to my music.

Hi Lane Kerr,

Even I am having the same problem after I upgraded my iPod Touch 32gb to iOS5. Two suggestions which you can try out for a temporary fix : (not sure if it'll work for you.... but worth a try)

1. Try disabling everything in notification centre, location services, imssg, untick unnecessary stuff from spotlight search settings and then shut down and restart your ipod touch and see if the general lagginess improves.

2. Regarding album art sluggishness... i still couldn't find any workarounds... but if you have huge playlists, try unchecking all songs in itunes, then sync (that is empty your iPod) then, check all songs and sync again.... sometimes this resolves playlist related issues. 🙂

Thx !

Same here: My Ipod Touch 4g is now slow as a snail, basically useless.

I am waiting for apps to open - reminds me of staring at Microsoft programs to load.

I turned all cloud services off, all notifications are off and I still have to wait 5 SECONDS until the camera shutter opens.

Apple did a very bad job with IOS 5, main reason I bought Apple was, that is was fast and reliable, now I can´t downgrade - very dissapointed with Apple - I´m not a fan and may just will buy something different next time.

I read people with IPAD 1 are reporting the same issue since it is the same processor as in the Ipod.

I too had this issue. It appears to be a memory management issue. I suspect many of you have seen the "low memory" comment in the "diagnostic and usage data" display area shown in general settings. One work around pointed out that this low memory problem is related to multi-tasking. The multi tasking ability of the touch keeps open the apps that have been opened in the past. Go ahead and double click the home button and you will see all the apps that have been opened in the multi tasking bar. I closed these apps from the multi tasking bar and the problem disappeared...temporarily. Until I had a bunch more apps open. At the recommendation of an Apple techie, I did a restore on my iPod touch and reloaded my iPod. When my open apps exceeded an unknown threshold on the multi tasking bar, the problem returned. When I was talking with the techie from apple, he indicated that he had not be aware of the problem. I find that hard to believe when you look at the number of replies and views on this question.

That is exactly what the Apple techie said to me "we aren't aware of this problem".. What the ****? More people should call in and let them know because this isn't acceptable. Apple is being too fu*king sloppy, they better fix this. It's pretty slow when scrolling and swipping through Applications EVEN when I have nothing running. It even freezes when I swipe to unlock, it takes 4 seconds or so for the touch screen to respond - Unacceptable. I'm calling them again tomorrow to let them know a lot of people are having this problem and everyone having this problem in the US should call 800-275-2273 (Other countries http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57) and let them know we didn't waste money over something that isn't working properly. Bullsh*t!

i heared Apple put in some features to speed up things but are not turning out so well.

eg when you first startup your iphone/ipod, unlock it and then slide the screen to the right(to go to the search screen) you will notice that the screen does not slide smooth but freezes half way and then pops up the search screen.

They tried to save some time but in fact EVERYBODY is experiencing this as a lag in the screen, thus it is SLOWER.

there is a tool you can download in Cydia which says it speeds up things but the only thing it does is get rid of this buggy feature that apple introduced.

bumer for us is that we need to jailbreak the device to use his tool.

i agree, Apple should fix things.

the reason why i still did not jail break the device is that i thought it is more stable with the original fw.

now that it is not i might try cydia to see if things get smoother

even my 3gs is faster than my iphone4 at the moment
