I can't sign into iCloud via windows control panel

When I try to log in, I get an error message reading 'you can't sign in because of a server error'.

I'm no computer whizz and this has got me stumped. I've tried turning off firewall, closing all other programs and restarting the computer with no luck :-/

Any help appreciated,

Thanks, Lucy

I've tried all the measures above, but still no success. I only have the Windows 7 Firewall and AVG anti-virus running, and disabling them has no effect.

I can sign in to icloud through my browser with no problem.

Strangely I can sign in with windows control panel by using my daughter's account on the same computer, which leads me to think that it isn't a security software/firewall problem.

Mine was solved by this one which also solves the pesky applemobiledevice hogging all the processing power.

Restart your computer open no programs.

Run a command prompt as Administrator

As mentioned above type in

netsh winsock reset

Press Enter and wait for the reboot message to appear.

Restart computer and bingo sign in (also

When you come across this processor hogging on 1 in 3 computers I service uninstalling the whole apple suite previously was causing a massive headache!

Hope you get yours sorted soon.

I've got the same problem of not being able to complete the login process from the cloud icon in the control panel.

Currently running Vista SP2, all suggested solutions have not worked and I've confirmed that by creating a new account I can in fact login from that (too much hassle to migrate all my files to that account)

Running the Sysinternals utility Procmon against the Icloud.exe app I get a network responses from the apple icolud server and shortly after that if stalls having tried to create a file in C:\Users\usera\application data which fails with access denied.

I'm not sure if this is a co-incidence or not at the moment.

Yes I too am avoiding moving all my files to a new user profile.

I'm beginning to suspect a conflict with my Outlook 2010 set up. Or maybe it's paranoia.

I can sync everything between iTunes and my Iphone over a USB connection apart from Contacts, which brings up the "can't start a sync session" error. However it is syncing. This might be a red herring but I'm going to try a clean install of my Office 2010 and try again.

I'll let you know.

E U R E K A !! I have PC Tools Spyware with Antivirus, but was hesitant to "remove it" as you suggested. Finally, though, I made sure that I was able to reinstall this program via my account at PC Tools, and then I removed the program. After a reboot, I accessed iCloud via Control Panel on my Windows 7 64-bit PC, logged in to my Apple account and Voila it happened! I subsequently, reinstalled PC Tools Spyware without further incident. NOTE: While after I configure iCloud, I selected the "Close" button versus the "Sign Out". Thanks.

Hi all,

I have been trying to repair a very similar problem since Tuesday when I installed a copy of Outlook 2010 and tried to log on to icloud from my Win 7 Pro 64 bit Dell PC. I have read far and wide about this problem and spoke to Apple who kindly got it to work on the 2nd fresh user account that they got me to set up. Don't try to copy files and app data to a new user profile. It is almost impossible. User profiles 'copy to' is disabled 'greyed out' in win 7. sysprep is the only way to copy a user profile and that is for IT experts only. Even then it does not copy all settings and personalisation. Enough of the small talk. Many thanks to others for the various ideas I tried and was successful with here. Not really sure which step fixed it but it did for me:

Make sure you have all the latest windows and office updates for your PC

First use the winsock reset CMD routine described elsewhere here using 'run as admin'

Sign out of iCloud Control panel on your PC

Uninstall the mobileme control panel software from windows control panel

Download that again from the Apple website and install it

(it will say mobileme is now iCloud just continue and ignore that)

Sign in to iCloud control panel

Do not check anything (before opening outlook) 1st time other than 'mail with outlook'

Click Apply

Close iCloud PC control panel

Open outlook and set me.com email as 'default'

Close outlook

Open iCloud PC control panel again

Check: 'contacts with outlook'

Check: 'calendars and tasks with outlook

Click Apply

When you click apply, if you see merging contacts/ calendar flash by then it has most probably worked.

Open Outlook and hopefully raise a smile 🙂

Good Luck with this!

I'm so glad it worked 4 u 2 andymc1980!!! When I finally tried it after day's of iTunes syncing AND iCP inability sign in (as Administrator) doing the Bonjour Service reset was a MIRACLE 4 me as everything started working! Lol

Thnx 4 the feedback & glad u got yours working! Since Apple releases this & doesn't seem 2 care 2 help w/o 1st requiring money!

That's terribly annoying. iCloud runs fine on my Vista PC but my new Win 7 64-bit box has this dreaded server error every time. Just in case I logged off of iCloud on the old PC. I tried all remedies on this thread - the winsock refresh, restarting Bonjour service, installing ME panel (though I don't have and never had me.com account), running iCloud.exe as an admin. Nothing helps.

Any other ideas or word from Apple?

I'd noticed a permissions problem when tracing ICloud.exe with Sysinternals Procmon it was getting an access denied error and them nothing else happened.

I'm not using remote folders or offline files on my laptop (Vista 32 OS).

Creating a brand new user account overcomes the problem, however migrating my profile and files is a non starter at the moment. I'm also of the view that this approach is a really satisfactory one to solve a problem.

I have had problems on one windows based computer to login to icloud, whereas another windows pc had no such problems.

In the end deleting the antispyware program (PC Tools Spyware Doctor) was the solution. This program actually also caused problems elsewhere. So I deleted it completely, restarted it, and icloud connected immediately.

Perhaps these antispyware programs cause some sort of conflict somewhere? Just a thought...
