Q: I can't sign into iCloud via windows control panel

When I try to log in, I get an error message reading 'you can't sign in because of a server error'.

I'm no computer whizz and this has got me stumped. I've tried turning off firewall, closing all other programs and restarting the computer with no luck :-/

Any help appreciated,

Thanks, Lucy

I don't know if this helps but.. After months of trying every solution presented on this thread (within my non administrator limits) for reasons unknown to me (rumor is, the CEO just bought an iPad), my company decided to remove the proxy server from the network. Now my icloud works perfectly. With virus protection on, firewalls on & St Benard iPrism (web blocking software, blocks unapproved web sites). No issues.

I logged in to another account and was able to sign in.  So what I did to make it work under my account was find my profile under c:\users I renamed my apple computer folder under appdata\local I then copied the c:\users\whatever name you logged in under that worked\appdata\apple computer to my profile.  Icloud started right up asked for my password and away I went.  PLEASE DONT DO THIS if you use itunes it will stop your libary from loading.  I was lucky enough to do this on a machine that had a fresh install of ITUNES.  The machine is also using redirected folders so it should fix just about everyone.  Hope this helps.

You must run file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Internet Services\iCloud.exe as an Admin by clicking on using right mouse button and choose "Run as Asministrator". Then just type your user email and password. Voila!

    Hope it helps.

I think there is no way to make a clean connection with the iCloud Service through a HTTP-Proxy-Server at this time. Please let me know if you got a solution.

That makes no sense to me. I think that just "Network and Security"-related Software affect the behavior of iCloud.

After hours of searching, I finally managed to log into iCloud on my Windows 7 PC using the suggestion made by JimmyJame on page 1 of this thread.

The trick is that you have to have a mac IOS 5 device. Using my mac, I went to System Preferences and logged into iCloud using my Apple ID. I then went to www.icloud.com and logged in there using the same Apple ID. After doing this, I then went to my PC, opened iCloud and signed in using the Apple ID without any trouble at all.

I have no idea why this worked, but after many failed tries based on a multitude of suggestions posted all over the net, this is the one that did it for me.

    Resolved issue:

Go to folder "%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer" and delete corrupt folders and files there.  Try again.  If issue persists, copy over file and folders from an account for whom it works.

Also got iCloud Control Panel to work via our proxy server (ours is WebMarshal), by adding URL http://www.icloud.com to the 'Proxy Bypass List'.  Nearly all URL proxy servers will have similar setting, basically it won't interrogate traffic to that URL.

Took a week to get this fixed.  Hope it helps someone.

    Thank U leefromhalstead!!!

    It works!

I advise ereryone to follow this.

    Simply go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Internet Services

Find and right click on "iCloud" (application file)

Than click "Run as Administrator" and log in iCloud.

You can also set the above mentioned "iCloud" file to be allways run as Administrator.
