Aperture 3.2 upgrade (from 3.1.3) crash continuously

Upgraded today from Aperture 3.1.3 to 3.2 and running a small test on a library of 10 Canon CR2 Raw images, but having Aperture 3.2 crash from the start.

I have repaired permissions, repaired database, rebuild database, created a new library etc. and nothing seems to help!

Yes, even tried a blank brand new library created in Aperture 3.2 - no luck. Can not do anything - sometimes I might even get to open an image full screen before it crash...?

As per usual I do not get a response from Apple so will try getting rid of Nik Software plugins and BorderFX, but this is going rapidly in the same direction as Adobe software experience for me.

Regards

"Again not a happy customer after an upgrade...???"

BTW: Running on iMac with OS 10.6.8 and all the latest patches installed

I contacted Nik customer service department by email, recently I purchased silver efex pro for Aperture, inquiring about about the software for another host, as I am very disappointed in Apples No response to the upgrade issues..

Ready for this, I was called by tech who wanted to speak to me personally, he said they have heard nothing about any issues with Aperture and didn't see anything in their forms about this... Now, I'm questioning if Apple is going to come out with a bug fix at all..

Dan, No it was a Nik software tech.....When I called the Apple store I was directed to tech support, however I would have to purchase a 30 day apple care to speak to a specialist.... Apple did not confirm or deny a aperture upgrade problem.. I'm giving it another week before attempting to address this issue myself.... I can't buy a new machine at this time, I have CS2 creative suite, I would have to upgrade to use the newer plug-ins...it looks like not matter what $$$$ is to be spent...

Hi Dan, Day 8 here, and it seems that there are many Apple techs that haven't heard of the 3.2 crash issue. Went to the Genius bar the other day. They haven't heard anything about the 3.2 crash issue. You probably, have read some of my reports on this forum, that have the same characteristics of the problems you and others are having. I have readily admitted on this forum that, I'm a Photographer, not a computer ace. Thats not to add specialty on my behalf, but I have struggled trying to find a procedure, or solution that apparently you have found by reverting to 3.1.3. I guess I'm getting confused, from reading all of the various methods to resolve this. Apple no longer, according to them, have Aperture 3 CDs for sale. Nice! Now what?

Anyway, after all of what has been prescribed on our forum here, is there a direct, simple, effective method of getting this thing to work?

Summary of my issue:

Loaded the 3.2 update. Crashed upon open, because the opened image defaulted to a Tiff.

I can trick te library by getting it to open to my slide show file, having the time to click on a jpeg, of which

gives me more time to select the browser mode so that I can work with Jpegs. As soon as a Tiff is selected

it Quits Aperture. This is so Twilight Zone.

I'm glad you are OK, and have found a way to stay afloat.

Hi Donald

In my limited experience, there's nothing like Tech Bar 'Geniuses' for being completely unaware of issues...

Sadly, I'm not aware of a way to get 3.2 to work on the machines on which it's not working. I couldn't go as far as to say it doesn't work at all, as forums tend to only have those with a negative experience talking on them. We have to assume that eventually Apple will release a secondary update to fix 3.2. In the mean time though...

If you have Time Machine or any other backup system for that matter, then you could try deleting all related items from 3.2 (others have mentioned how to do this further up the thread - there's a few folders in the OS X libraries that need deleting and apparently a file in the Aperture library that makes it think it's 3.2 instead of 3.1) and then restoring 3.1.3 from your back up. Extremely sadly, if you don't have back up then I'm afraid you may have learned the hard way why they're so utterly essential. Time Machine is excellent and works like a treat - external hard drives are so cheap it's laughable. I started backing up a couple of years ago when I realised the cost to me of litigation if I lost a wedding couple's photos!

Sorry if that's no help, or teaching grandma to suck eggs. If you do have back up and need help & advice, then this forum is a great place to start!

Not true 3.2 is still there. You might be confused because the top title says Aperture 3. But that is what it is. The current version is 3.2 but it is still Aperture 3 (not to be confused with the old Aperture 2 or the future Aperture 4).

If you look down a bit you'll see it tells you what is new in version 3.2 and if you look in the spec box on the right hand side you'll also see the version is 3.2
