LED flash alert not working.. Updated

Ditto on..... You have to locked the phone then only the flash alert works!!

All you have to do to make it work is click the power button on top and put phone in sleep mode... Works every time even with vibrate on, :) hope this helps

I have a new iPhone 5s. The flash feature does not work on text messages regardless of sleep mode or not. The flash does work with phone calls, reminders (I have all alerts turned off for emails).

I'd appreciate suggestions on how to get the flash working for text messages as I find the vibration mode is weak on this model.

I am having the same issue. The LED alert worked when I first got the phone, but I recently noticed that it does not work anymore just for text msgs. It flashes for all other alerts, just not text msgs (even when the phone is locked/sleep). I would really like to know how to fix it.

I was having the same problem with my wife's phone. Mine worked and hers didn't so I went through all the settings until we figured it out. Try this: settings > notification center > messages. Now scroll down and turn on "Show on lock screen". This fixed the problem on her phone.

Go to settings general accessabilty and check led flash is turned on. It's at the bottom of the page. q

However, this method allows a written "alert" (Jane Doe tex message) to appear on the locked screen. On past versions of the iPhone software, the flash worked regardless if the 'show on lock screen' was on or not.

It is my preference that those around my phone, do not have the opportunity to read the written alert on the screen. The flash alert was great as a stand alone tool, as many prefer to keep their phones on vibrate.

The flash only will light in response to an Alert.

If you don't want the Alert text to show up on the lock screen, you'll need to go into Settings -> Notification Center, select the alert that you want to hide (ie, Messages), select it, then turn off 'Show on Lock Screen".

The screen will simply show that you have a message from Jane Doe. It will not preview the message on the screen.

Make sure you have the "show alert on lock screen" option checked if you aren't seeing the led flash when receiving a text message. That option is found under settings > notification center > messages/messaging, then you will see the option to show on lock screen. I personally don't like my texts being displayed on the lock screen for everyone to see butt this solution worked to get the led flash alert to work on my iPhone 5s with the current iOS 7 running.

You can have a text message notification and not display any of the actual text message itself. It will just display you have a message from whoever.

thanks it worked do add one more step Notification Center>Messages>Show on Lock Screen make it active

I had a iphone 5s running ios8 with no notification on the lock screen and LED enabled and it worked just find. Just upgraded to the 6 with all the same settings, and no go. I had to turn on the "show on lock screen" (which I DO NOT want) to get it to work.
