Can't share calendars after iCloud transition

Updated the whole family to iOS5 & iCloud today and it (almost) went off without a hitch.

My wife and I each maintain a personal calendar, shared (read-only) to the other. I also maintain a family calendar, shared (read/write) between us. Updating to iCloud broke the existing shares, but it told us it would do that, so once we were both upgraded, I reshared all the calendars.

My wife was able to subscribe/join to the two calendars I shared, no problem.

When I try to subscribe/join to her calendar, everything starts fine, but then at the very end, I get an error from the iCloud web page:

Can't join shared calendar

This calendar can't be joined because it's no longer shared.

I've tried recreating, exporting, importing her calendars, none of which has any effect. Even if I create a brand new calendar with no items and share it, that's the response I get when trying to join it. I suspect something in her calendar data on iCloud is messed up, but have no idea how to go about getting it reset.

Suggestions?

Hello,

This has been bugging me but I now have a fix.

I cannot do any sharing on iCloud, but I can do it through the iCal application on OS X Lion. Once I have shared the calendars I want properly in iCal, the opens are now opened up on iCloud in Safari.

Try this yourselves if you have a Mac. I has worked for me on three accounts (i have done it for friends by creating an account for them on my Mac and doing it for them to reset it)

Hope this helps, it did for me and my friends...

My Mac Pro and my iMac have been buggy since the Lion update. Now when receiving an invite, regardless to which email account I have, there is no option for a reply. I don't get the "accept", "decline" or "maybe" options. The .ics link isn't connected to the invite. I've uprgraded to iCloud and even there, I can't accept invitations. As a long time user of everything Apple, I am frustrated that this latest rush to market software is so buggy. Reminds me so much of MS and their crap. Apple, make sure it works before releasing these updates/upgrades. For now, I'm back to sticky notes on the refrigerator. Cripes. I'm serious thinking of moving back to SL. I'm totally disappointed with Lion.

I've been able to do add invitations since I read that if you mouse over the "when" date of the invitation a drop down box will allow you to add it to iCal. From my iPhone I did the same but had to select create an invent in iCal. Worked fine. Thanks for the heads up Apple. Not. I still think Lion and iCloud is nothing more than fluff, especially Lion. I'd much rather have had speed, clean working OS over this app access. As I've said in past posts, so many coloured wheels now.

Thought I'd better submit an addendum to my last comment. Seems I can open email on my iphone, click on the invite date, select create and it will show in my iCal. On my Mac Pro, I try the same and no show. Only when a sync occurs do I see it in iCal on the Mac Pro. I thought iCloud was suppose to be the solution to all of these issues. Can't sync wirelessly unless plugged into a power source??? What's with that? I think that regardless of where one is, receiving email, invites, making changes to files etc, these changes ought to mesh with our Macs, if they are online. Or at least sync within wifi range without the need to be fed current. Imo, Lion and the latest Safari are less than desirable... just reiterating that. My rant for today.

You may have figured this out by now but I've had the problem for a week...when I tried to join shared calendars that I subscribed to before I joined icloud, I would now get the message "can't joined shared calendar because calendar is no longer shared." I made an appointment with the Genius Bar and Chuck figured it out...for me at least. I mainly use a gmail adddress, so the people who sent me the requests to join their calendars (after they upgraded to icloud) were sending the requests to my gmail address. I turned on "backup" in my icloud settings on my iphone (which can take a few minutes/hours depending upon your wifi speed) and then I had one of my "calendar sharers" send me a new request to my .mac address and it allowed me to join his calendar...worked like a champ...don't know if that will help everyone but maybe some...

Hi all,

I finally sorted this issue of 'Can't share calendar because it is no longer shared'.

I had to go into 'Manage Apple ID'

https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa

and login with my original .mac Apple ID and there I found that it was using my .me address as one of the verified email address'. Once I had deleted any reference to the .me address in the original .mac Apple ID management pages, then my wife's invite to join here calendar was properly showing in my .me iCloud login.

All working now! Hope it helps some others

BTW: originally the invite wasn't ever showing on iCloud (the iCloud email was routed to the original .mac account, even though my iCloud account was also the same .me address) only via my Mail.app as an email from my wife. After doing the fix the invite showed in iCloud as well and joining was normal and worked.

I was able to resolve 'Can't share calendar because it is no longer shared' by doing the opposite of Bleeksie.

I went to https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa and saw that both email adresses I tried sharing with were in there, and verified, but I never tried sharing with my actual "XXX.XXX@me.com" address. After I emailed a sharing invite to my @me.com address using iCal on my wife's iMac, the invitation for sharing our HOME calendar was finally accepted and I got no more errors. It seems that we now have 1 MacBook, 1 iMac, 2 iPads, and 2 iPhones all synced properly again! WHEW! 😁

The question is I am syncing with my office outlook and I would like to Sync with my Home PC awith outlook 2007 as well. Can I not use the same log in etc and invite my Home e mail address so I can have the same calander on my Iphone, My Office PC and My Home PC ?? I sign in to Icloud on the home PC and it says the calander is set up but there is no refresh ICloud on the Outlook to sync anything.

Thanks for this post. Very helpful.

I was sharing calendars with my wife and it worked great until iCloud.

Could simply not to get it to work. Sent several new invites to her .me email address and they simply did not make it to her.

The problem was that we signed up to the email service a long time ago, during the .mac time, and once I sent the invite to her .mac email address is started working.
