iCloud and a new me.com account: can't use it as a primary address in my AppleID.

Hello everyone, here's my problem.

Yesterday i have subscribed a new iCloud account. So, I got a new me.com email address.

Now, my AppleID is still using the old Yahoo! address (the only one i owned before subscribing to iCloud) as the primary address.

But now there is a secondary one: the me.com email address i have subscribed yesterday.

So I actually have 2 email addresses linked to my AppleID but i want to only use my me.com address for my AppleID and remove the Yahoo! one because i want to unsubscribe from Yahoo!

How can i do it? Trying to set my me.com email address as my primary AppleID email address is not working. Any other ideas?

Mac OS X (10.7)

Hi Ashtrinder,

My @me.com email address is the default address for mail on my iphone and ipad, and is the address from which mail is sent using iCloud on the web. My apple ID and primary email address (as defined at appleid.apple.com) is my old email address that I no longer want to use. If I try to change my apple ID and primary email address at appleid.apple.com to my @me.com email address, I get the message "You cannot create an Apple ID using a MobileMe account. If this is your email address, it is also your Apple ID."

Calendar invitations created on my iphone/ipad and on iCloud on the web are all sent from the email that is my Apple ID, I cannot change this, and I cannot change my Apple ID to my @me.com email.

I spoke to Apple support about this, they agreed that it was not ideal, but said there was nothing they could do. They recommended that I provide feedback about the issue.

If you have any ideas, that would be great.

Hi Ashtrinder,

Yes, I signed in to icloud using my @me.com email address. If I send myself a calendar invite (to an alternative hotmail address that I don't have registered with apple) it appears in my hotmail as being an invitation from my old email address (which is my AppleID). The same thing happens whether the Calender invite is generated from iPad/iPhone or iCloud on the web. Also if I change my AppleID to ANOTHER (non @me.com) email address, the calendar invites come from this email address.

ie: Calendar invites always appear to come from the primary appleID email address, so by definition cannot come from an @me.com email (at least in my case!).

I went through this madness today and feel compelled to post. My wife and I have had mac/me addresses for a while; my mother in law just got an iPhone so we went over to get everything set up today. She is new to smart phones (and is on a PC), so at first I decided we'd just skip push email and iCloud for now. Then I noticed that she is using Windows Live Mail, which is cloud based (her actual email service is not), so I figured heck, why not go ahead and set it up? I quickly discovered that only Outlook is supported even though the new platform is meant to replace Outlook. Fine, I will just set up a me email account for her. Perfect! Then the fun began. After talking to Apple for god knows how long the tech guy gave me the punchline that you have all heard - your me email address can not be used as the primary address (unless it was Mobile Me). WHAT?! Obviously the reason I created the me account for her was so that she could delete her old account!

Agonizing.

The only way is to create a completely new AppleID... Then you can transfer all your iCloud stuff over to that new email address... It isn't fun, but so far that is the only way I've been able to do it. It actually doesn't take too long to do and there is info online on how to do that...

Because you need to transfer the following from that iCloud to the new AppleID iCloud:

Calendar

Address Book

Notes

Reminders

Email

Bookmarks

Etc

But I can no longer access the old iCloud it keeps telling me my I'd or password is incorrect :(

I went through this idiocy at the Genius Bar yesterday and lost a awhile load of notes . I want them back and I can't login under my old I'd because it doesn't have a me.com suffix and logging in using the new doesn't have the notes.

This is Terrible

Back to the Genius Bar :(

I think it is ridiculous to not be able to merge IDs. Especially for those of us LOYAL APPLE customers who were "blessed" to be a part of the Mobile Me fiasco. I purchased numerous songs, movies, etc under the mobile me ID, and then I was told I would be forced to make a new Apple ID because Mobile me was being discontinued. However, I would not be able to merge the two? WTH??? Now, through no fault of my own, I have no way to merge these two IDs??? So now I have to manage two IDs, and with the current release of IOS 8, I cannot use the full functionality of the IOS because of having two IDs. Way to treat your loyal customers Apple. However, loyalty is not your game, it's about making $$$. Thx
