Apple ID is valid but is not an iCloud account

I've successfully upgraded three Macs and my iPhone to 10.7.2/Build 11C74 today, moved my MobileMe account to iCloud, and moved two of the Macs and the iPhone to iCloud. However, my MacBook Air keeps giving me the error "Apple ID is valid but is not an iCloud account" when I attempt to move it to iCloud. I've tried a test account on this Mac with the same results.

The Apple servers are confirming my Apple ID credentials, but won't allow me to set up iCloud on this MacBook Air. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I'm hoping it's just a server validation issue this evening that will be resolved in the morning, but for now I'm stumped.

Hi,

I just downloaded Icloud to a Windows 7 pc. I ran the install, and it asked me for my Apple ID and password was. I put it in and received the "Apple ID is valid but not a Icloud account. I would be happy to use the same user/pw for both, but would just the same create a new one... I followed the directions in the control pannel, but since icloud is still in the install mode, it will only come back up with the same popup box ???

Any suggestions ?

I ran into the same problems and after looking around on the Apple help site found a helpful solution germain to my useage. I set up individual icloud apple ID's for each device. I have multiple email accounts so I used a different email for each. All my devices use the same Apple ID for itunes so we are all backed up to the computer on the same device and can still share music, calendars, etc. You have to be organized with your data on I Tunes when doing the update, otherwise you will merge contacts, aps, etc. Not an ideal situation, but a definite work around that solved my useage problems. I am a very basic user so while this worked for me, it may not for other more technical users. If someone reads this and has any tips or cautions to add that I have not yet discovered, input is appreciated.
