I'm receiving the same issue. Ipad 1 installed iOS 5 and iCloud perfectly, but iPhone 3gs is having issues with iCloud back up. When I first tried to install iCloud and activate backup it came up with the message iCloud Backup failed - There was a problem enabling iCloud Backup. I turned iCloud backup off so I could start my phone. I've then gone into iCloud in Settings and tried to turn it back on but it is not working, keeps coming up with the same message - iCloud Backup Failed.

Anyone got any ideas!?! It does appear to be showing in ITunes on PC that it is backed up to iCloud but I'd like to do this on my phone obviously.

I can't back up on my new ipad 2 either.  I installed iOS5 on my wifes ipad 2 last night and she can access the cloud just fine, but on mine I keep getting "The was a problem enabling iCloud backup."  Does anyone know if it may be because we share an apple ID?  Any help would be greatly appreciated

I am experiencing the same problems backing up. I am wondering if it is related to the fact that my Apple ID is an old defunct @mac.com email address which is no longer operational? The iCloud mail account has set it's self up using this @mac.com address so I can not send or receive emails via this account. Could this have some effect on the backup issue?

I was having the same issue.  I left "backup to iCloud" selected in the Summary Tab, then went to my iPhone 4 and turned it OFF then back ON, then hit Create Backup" or "Backup Now" (whichever it was) and it started working!!

Ok not related to the old @mac.com Apple ID. I've managed to solve that one at least.

I finally recieved some clarity: If you register one ipad adn then try to register another with the same apple id, the second wont work.  ONE APPLE ID FOR ONE ICLOUD BACKUP!!

Not true, I had both my iPhone and iPad backed up yesterday.

But now I have the same problem as everyone else cause I turned syncing off and on again. =(

just noticed lol, although I now have iCloud backup appearing to be turned on - the switch - (but as said not working anyway), iCloud main panel on iOS says "iCloud backup is off"

You must plug in your phone and have wifi on, then icloud will back up info. It won't work unless pluged in to wall socket.

Right. So my iCloud backup from my iPhone4 is now working. Not actually if it's because of anything i did or weather the issues have been resolved.

In iTunes, with the iPhone connect throught Wifi. Set the 'BackUp' section to 'Back Up to iCloud'.

Then in Settings/iCloud/Storage & Backup. I noticed that 'iCloud Backup' was already on, i then tapped 'Start Backup'.

It's goin gto take about 44 minutes, using my Fibre Optic broadband. So it's gonna take a long time.

Mary12 says (Above) that you must me 'plugged in' my iPhone isn't right now and it's working fine.

Oh, the reason i have 25GB of iCloud space is because i have a MobileMe account which has 20Gb, that was transfered over, so it's free until next June.

just to mention that backing up to iCloud started to work again about half an hour ago here, sounds like they fixed it.
