SMS messages not matching a contact's mobile number

I am having the problem decribed here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2326. None of this seems to help, except, I do not want to save the contacts with double entry with and wihtout country codes, in my case +960.

This was only found in my carrier early stage of iOS, when it was in 2.0, if i remember it correctly. This was never an issue until now, in iOS 5 it hits again.

Contacts are saved with out the country code before and it worked perfectly. However, I have tried both way, with and without country code, does not help.

Moreover, I have been using iOS Beta from the begining of the development of iOS 5, and I kept reporting the bug. Now, this is ridiculously annoying to get SMS and not showing the contact number.

I have noticed that, since the Beta, when setting up the iPhone after the restore, iTunes pops up a message that reads "iTunes could not check for an update to the carrier settings for you iPhone error encountered (1630).

What do you guys think? 😕

All you folks having problems - do you have the problem when cloud is turned off or does that matter? Because my problem has not reoccured since I mention the fix above. But I also have not turned cloud back on and I would like to someday. Also as matter of information, we had Iphone 3gs with AT&T and we swithched to the new Iphone 4gs at Verizon. Also the problem was identical for me and my office mate that upgraded at the same time and same fix worked on both phones.

Your problem and my problem is completely different, our has something to do with the carrier settings and your solution of switching off the iCloud does not solve it. Every iPhone running iOS 5 in Maldives has this issue, with one network it works perfectly but the network I am on has this issue.

Guys, this issue persists in iOS 5.0.1 Beta.. I have again reported the bug and yet no response. Will keep you guys posted.

I'm having the exact same problem. I OTA'd the public release update and I had this issue with contacts in messages and phone call logs. I have yet to be able to fix it. Here's what I've attempted:

1. Deleted all messages and sent a new message to someone in my contact list. Still shows up as phone number instead of name.

2. Deleted phone call logs. Called someone. Showed up as phone number in the call log instead of name.

3. Updated some contacts on my mac to update my contacts on my phone over icloud. Didn't change anything.

4. Deleted all icloud contacts off my iphone. Then re-synced them. Didn't change anything.

One thing I did notice: Try and add/edit a phone number in your contacts. The phone will start to autocomplete a (XXX) XXX-XXXX formatted number, but then automatically judder to a XXXXXXXXXX formatted number. I don't know if this means anything, but I distinctly remember the iphone letting you format your numbers however you wanted. Whether it be (XXX) XXX-XXXX or XXXXXXXXXX or even +1 (XXX) XXX-XXXX.

Anyway, that's all I got. Hope this gets fixed soon.

Hello there,

Actually after several Bug Reports since Beta of iOS 5 and now finally in iOS 5.1 Beta 1; this issue is fixed in Beta 2 of iOS 5.1. I have contacts with +960 and without +960 - doesn't make a difference.. Basically it's running smooth as silk. Although I was assuming it was a glitch caused by the Region Formats, apparently not. Maldives is still not listed in the Settings > International > Region Formats.

There is no official date announce for public release of iOS 5.1 but it must be out soon.
