I upgraded to the iPhone 4S yesterday (from the iPhone 4 running iOS 5.01) and lost some of my ringtones as well. I tried many of the suggestions on this thread. I then called Apple Care and after 5o minutes, still no luck. Here is what I finally did that worked. I had 2 ringtones from the old system of buying a song through iTunes and making it a ringtone and 3 from the new Tones section in iTunes. The Tones are the ones I was having trouble with. They were showing up in iTunes but nut syncing to the phone. In iTunes I went under the Library Tab (upper left hand corner) then to the Tones tab. I deleted the three giving me problems. Instead of moving to trash I clicked Keep. I then went into spotlight, searched for each one, clicked on it to play it and then it automatically put it back in iTunes for me. I then clicked on my Iphone under devices. Resynced the ringtones and they finally synced. Hope this helps some of you still having problmes.

I've tried unchecking my custom ringtones and syncing it, then re-checking them again and syncing it, and it still didn't work. WHAT DID WORK FOR ME WAS... I removed the ringtones from my Itunes library (make sure to KEEP THE FILE). Then I dragged the ringtones back in the library. I synced it again with the selected ringtones...and voila... my custom ringtones were back!

I've upgraded to an iPhone 4S today, and stumbled across this thread when I found I couldn't sync my custom made ringtones to the 4S.

My issue was that of the 12 custom ringtones I had, two would sync find, but the rest simply refused to. All had been made the same way, i.e. by converting to AAC format in iTunes, and then renaming to the .m4r extension.

I tried all the workarounds described here (including clearing them, syncing, re-adding them / re-checking them, and re-syncing). None of these workarounds made any difference.

After a lot of investigation, I've determined that iTunes will NOT synchronise any custom made ringtone that is over 40 seconds long. I've re-made all my ringtones at 40 seconds or less, and now they all sync fine. If I follow the identical process with an identical source track, but go to 41 seconds or longer, it will not sync.

This is very frustrating. If iTunes wont let me sync a track over 40 seconds, then that's fine. But I would at least expect an appropriate message to tell me why it's not bothering. (Just another reason why I hate iTunes...)

Hopefully this will remove the confusion from anyone else who's having similar issues. (In case it matters, I'm using iTunes version 10.5.1.42.)

I used to have a ringtone I used for everything, but after the ios 5 update, it wasn't working. To get it on the phone to begin with, I had to sync it from Tones under Library, and then stupidly insead of adding all my music to the Library, I just clicked on my iPhone to manually manage all of my songs. Now that my iPhone's iPod is manually stocked, in order for me to re-sync tones, it would involve erasing everything on my phone. When I try to add a .m4r ringtone file to Tones under My iPhone, it just turns grey. In front of the check mark there is just a Sync icon, so it looks similar to when you just put a song into iTunes. I can't edit the info or anything, and it's not doing anything. =| Ejecting my phone and re-inserting it doesn't change anything, and it obviously doesn't show up on my phone. Any solutions?

PROBLEM SOLVE...ringtone!

Just create a new folder in your computer, move all your costum ringtone to this folder, then delete all from your iphone and itune - resync. Add your costum ringtone as new ones to itune and your device from the new folder, then sync again and wala...problem solve!!! This work for iphone 4 running and upgrade to IOS 5.

Hi all,

I have this one ringtone that won't delete off of my phone but it's been deleted from itunes.

I've unsynced all of my ringtones, and that one won't delete.

I've resynced them all back, still there.

I've even dragged the file for the ringtone I deleted back into my itunes ringtone folder, synced everything, then unsynced, and that one ringtone is still there.

Is there anyone encounter this problem & solved it?
