iphone battery dead after ios 5 update

After a lengthy ios5 update my phone was at 100% charge so I didn't charge it overnight as I normally do. In the morning the phone was so dead that I had to plug in the charger to get it to respond. Not sure why it would be completely dead after 8 hours of standby, in Edge mode to boot? Also I am missing purchased ringtones though they are still in iTunes. Any help is appreciated.

hey guys,

seems that there is an unacceptable error from apple here. There is a huge number of customers complaining that their iphone is draining out of battery in couple of hours after they are upgraded their iOS to iOS 5. That is what exactly happened to me. I cannot leave office for more than 4-6 hours because I am losing any communication....i have no phone. I am waiting in the airports for my flights to depart and I am obliged to find a seat next to a rechargable stations...most of them sponsored by LG or Samsung. Probably it would be a good idea to get an Android phone...at least we have a phone.

The most anoyble of all is that Apple has not done any official comment in their site ....they are just whisteling around!!! Congratulations Apple ...you managed succesfully to destroy our trust!!! Until then we hope that they'll find something to solve the problem.

Good luck to all of us who we paid >650 € for a cell phone..

is really horrible!
was hoping! the iOS5.0.1 but he disappointed me a lot!!
after this update did several tests such as iOS devices (iPhone 4 and iPad1 WiFi +3 G)
iPhone after being fully charged * 100% even though we have a bug in the animation of iOS5 when the battery is charging! (an animation of a mini battery charging **! ** 10% * in red until 100%! realized that to have a bug in the animation! when it comes in100% can be seen that the animation shows the battery incomplete ** 10% -)
I have done everything! * (at least back to the iOS4.3.5) disable the Wi-Fi, sound, vibration, I closed all open programs!, Bluetooth, and decreases the brightness!
yet! ** 7h after the battery was only 60%: (
Note: I took up the chip * Micro-yes!
expect an answer!
Or will I have to buy another smartphone! -> Samsung

I have an iPhone 3GS and upgraded to ios 5 (more fool me.) I had the battery problem and needed to find outlets throughout the day to keep my phone functional. I downloaded the ios 5.01 when it came down and the problem persists. I had full charge, put the phone in my purse and went out for two hours and found it dead again. I did have the Location manager and notifications turned off. This is getting frustrating.

I have had the same experience. I updated my iPhone 4 on Friday from 5 to 5.0.1 and it died as soon as the update was complete. Even though it had full charge, I couldn't turn on the phone with the power button. It turned back on when I plugged it into power (starting with the silver apple screen - as if I had powered it down). I tried several times to unplug, but each time the phone died and would not wake up. I restored the phone to factory settings this morning to see if I could fix the problem. It seemed fine and gave me about an hour before it died again. Initially, it wouldn't turn on even when I had it plugged it in to the iMac... but it seems to be up again now. I've tried to call Apple but it's a Sunday here and phone support is not open. I've logged an issue with Express Lane and been warned that I might have to pay for the privilege of speaking with a technical advisor, even though I bought my phone in June 2011, so it is well within the warranty period. Have just turned location services and notifications off... Will see if that helps.Aaaah! What's going on?

hey guys,

i suppose the solution to the problem is a bit simple. I had the same problem with the battery which was draining dead after of 5-6 hours. Closing peculiar applications and all other funcy stuff...didn't worked AT ALL.

The problem solved COMPLETELY doing a "restore" through iTunes. Phone worked perfect and appeared a bit faster than previously without consuming any battery power...normal consumption I might say. Not to mention, that all programms, notification center, location etc... all running!!!!

Interstingly, I found this solution even BEFORE update to iOS 5.0.1 !!!! Couple of days, i did an update to 5.0.1...and everything seem to work perferct. I am charging my phone every second night ...while all day I am giving it a "hard" time...long calls, emails, calendars and internet as well as some gaming!!

Happy again....try it...I hope it will work!!!

Hi All,

I don't believe in turning off functionality on a beautiful phone as iPhone 5. Here is what I did, and it did make a difference to me (I was a victim of the battery issue).

1. Go to Settings --> Notifications

2. 'Not In Notification Center' - Ensure all the new applications installed by each one of you, have not only the notification Center turned off, but also ensure you turn off unwanted apps - (Good to have Alert Style as None)

a) Badge App Icon

b) Sounds

c) View in Lock Screen

I did all this and from earlier, my power was draining out anywhere between 2%-4% every hour. Now it has reduced drastically to 1% maybe in 2-3 hours 🙂.

And I can't take my hands off the phone, which is why even the 1% every 2-3 hours, else that also should increase with time. Plus, feel free to use 'Do Not Disturb' from Settings frequently when you really won't be using the phone (sleeping, driving, meetings).

Over the air (wifi backup to iclouds also consume a lot of power, turn it off and do it once when you are charging the phone)

I believe, the new OS is taking time for people to learn about, as it contains 100's of new functions, which we have to get used to in time, and causing all these confusions. It is a great phone people, trust me 🙂.

Cheers,

Vishnu

Same problem for me.

Woke up with 100% battery (cherged during the night) and played a game for about 20 minutes total. Apart from that, no bluetooth, wifi and nor even surffed the web or checked e-mails. After 10 hours and only 2 or 3 normal phone calls, my iphone 5 has 30% battery life.

Please Apple, fix it or, at least, let us undo the update.

Battery life is one of the worst things on iphpne, but now it is even worse!!

Yeap. iOS 5 dies battery than other preveios iOS versions due to it's features. To save your battery life on iOS 5.x you can

1) dissable location service.

2) always close multitasking applications.

3) use minimum brightness level with auto brightness turn on.

4) turn off wifi and bluetooth when not using.

5) turn off equelization in music.

6) turn off push notifications for apps and mail.

7) turn off vibrations.

This tips helps me ! Try this rather than charging your device at all time.
