iphone battery dead after ios 5 update

After a lengthy ios5 update my phone was at 100% charge so I didn't charge it overnight as I normally do. In the morning the phone was so dead that I had to plug in the charger to get it to respond. Not sure why it would be completely dead after 8 hours of standby, in Edge mode to boot? Also I am missing purchased ringtones though they are still in iTunes. Any help is appreciated.

Same here.

Prior to the iOS 5 update, I could get 2.5 days out of a single charge based on my normal usage. Today I received one call and used the map to check traffic, once, and I went from 100% at 7am to ZERO by 7pm - auto shut off.

Can someone please explain to me what is running in the iOS 5 backround that is sucking this thing dry?

I have alread turned off PING, most of the location settings, and notifications to conserve battery. This is INSANE. I don't need trouble shooting on the device. 24 hours ago, with iOS 4.3.5 none of this was happening. The only change between now and then, is the installation of iOS 5.

Any other suggestions out there?

Maybe I should shut the phone off entirely until I actually need it - that should save the charge.

Same here. Updated last night. Recharged over night, pulled charger at 7:30am. Usually, by 10pm I'm down to30%. Today I hit 20% at 7:00pm. I had iCloud turned on and transferred 2GB of data today - huge. I was just doing notes, calendar, reminder, and find my iPhone.

Am trying again tonight with all iCloud stuff turned off.

I also noticed that my calendar (which I sync with google [as an exchange server], and my 2 sbcglobal accounts now shows just exchange ??? Haven't diagnosed whether I have lost appointments on any of them on their web sites.

Result here!

This has worked for me so far from Apple member "HDCrazy" on another thread about this issue

"I think I got it!!!

It seems to be a conflict with mobile me and icloud.

What I did;

In e-mail settings delete the original mobile me account.

Then I deactivated everything in icloud settings (when prompted if I should keep my info on my phone I opted to keep my information on my phone).

I then did a hard reboot.

When the phone powered back on I then went back into icloud and set it all up again.

This was about 45 min ago and I have only lost 1% and it’s probably from using it.

Good luck and please post your results."

Charge this morning, still at 96% three hours later!

Be sure to let him know if it works.

My 3GS is giving me the same problems, battery flattening at an alarming rate, 100% when I went to bed last night now down to 20% this morning. I have tried all the fixes that came up yesterday and none of them seem to have fixed my problem. I have all the new (and old) bells and whistles turned off on my phone and it still goes flat at around 10% - 15% an hour just sitting doing nothing. No idea of what to try next.

I am experienceing very very poor battery life on iphone 4 since installing IOS5. Never use wifi or bluetooth anyway so it's not that as they are always off. Am not on icloud yet either as still using OS6.2 on imac and still using mobile me for now so don't think it's that either. Have disabled many notifications as suggested by others and also done a hard reset.

Downloaded a CPU monitor app (A10) which seems to induicate that as soon as any app is running, usage is at 100%. I always kill apps by double clicking on home and hold on icons then close with red minus button. Makes little difference. Will also try running battery down to 0% and fully charging as some suggest this may reset battery calibration.

In addition, IOS 5 seems to hog a lot of storage space (now have over 2GB of "Other" which I suppose is OS. Reduces available space on 16GB iphone rather a lot.

Have been a mac user for ten years and wouldn't go back to PC. iphone 4 for over a year and find it very good indeed especially for email. Best gadget I ever had. Don't need an ipad as phone does all I need. Only down for me was fairly poor battery life even in IOS 4 (need to charge every night) even with many features turned off including all push notifications especially in mail. But with new IOS5 it's not going to last a day. Disastrous really. Apple need to look into this quickly and come up with a fix.
