iOS 5 Syncing issues

Updated my iPod Touch to iOS 5 successfully, but now I'm having a myriad of problems syncing, but no iTunes error messages are involved. Here are a few of them:

-Music will not sync or delete from the iPod.

-It seems to be trying to sync my voice memos, after which iOS reports that 15 items could not be synced. See iTunes for more info.

-Though the photo sync has not completed at all (yet, as I have had to keep cancelling to solve the other issues), it wants to only copy 3k of my 18k photos. Also, it STILL won't sync Photoshop Documents (.PSD) like it used to!!

-The same videos also still seem to sync despite being UNCHECKED in the TV Shows tab of my iPod.

Yes, I've tried restarting everything. iPod (Home and Power), iTunes, even my whole computer (as I shut it down for the night last night).

Not sure if this will work for you, but I solve my audiobook problem by completely deleting all of my audible books out of the iTunes library. I shut down iTunes, then I reopened one book and let iTunes move it into the iTunes Library, then synced. It worked. So, I copied all my files into iTunes, essentially creating a new Library. I synced, and it worked fine. No idea why this would do the trick - maybe some file corruption of the iTunes library during the update of iTunes, OS X or iOS 5 - I did them all at the same time.

In any case, it's working fine now, so I'm happy. I have advised Audible and Apple as well.

Had to go to an Apple "store" here in BA to get it solved, they couldn't the easy way, they end up iclouding the data on my mac and then iclouding the iphone and then I got all the contacts back, we went for the merge data option, it wasn't easy for the technical guy either (30 minutes), sometimes the option merge the data duplicates contacts and you don't have overwrite option but in this case it didn't. I won't be needing to syncronize my phone to the itunes anymore, that's a good one.

Thanks all for the help!!!

I even called apple and they said that we need to wait until library updates their files but I don’t’ see how its library’s fault it works on everything else but not ios5

This is fraking ridiculous! Apple needs to create a BOOK outlining STEP by STEP by STEP by STEP by...directions for setting up various iDevices +iCloud under various arrangements (an individual using one iCloud account, a family using one iCloud account for itunes purchases and another iCloud account for bookmarks, contacts,...).

Steve, bless his soul, said he mantra for Apple products was "It just works."

With regard to this whole iOS 5 + iCloud + Lion 10.7.2 thing..."It just doesn't work."

Please keep those comments to Apple Feedback flowing

I'm assuming Apple does not want this kind of customer/user reaction to a new, highly touted product.

Hi jimmyb,

Wanted to let you know that stopping and restarting (2x) the Bonjour service did it for me. I was getting a message when trying to sync that the sync service didn't start (it stopped at step 1). After I stopped and restarted the Bonjour service (Windows 7 OS), the sync worked perfectly.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi ellenfromcolorado...

I'm so glad it worked for u too! I spent days of hardly no sleep trying to figure out why the iTunes would sync when I selected "back up to I cloud" but when I'd select "back up to this computer" it would hang at step 2?!!!! And, my iCloud control panel would not sign in either! It was after, stumped, I left my comPuter alone & was watching tv that an iTunes error MSG popped up about needing to restart the Bonjour! I absolutely something as simple as that was causing me all my grief! Now I can sync to iTunes backed up to computer & iCloud, wifi sync (without any wires at all) & my iclOud control panel on my computer signs in!

Two suggestions....when merging calendar/contacts from the cloud to outlook u may want to select to delete the items it will tell u it has a problem merging. I kept saying not to abs then I'd had duplicates & at one point triplicate calendar entries! Spent forever on I cloud calendar deleting all the duplicates! Also, it seems, at least as of last week, signing into iCloud on Internet explorer...clicking your name....and attempting to delete photo stream...doesn't want to work. Photo stream pics will supposedly autodelete after 30 days. But on another help sectn, I found that installing another browser on my computer...I installed safari...and signing in there that deleteing the photo stream works!

So glad it helped u & that we're all here to help each other FOR FREE unlike apple! Thanx 4 the feedback! I'm lovin iOS 5 now!

Jimmy,

Thanks for posting back so quickly. And again, thanks for the help. The sync problem was starting to drive me crazy, but I was lucky to find the discussion and your post in this group.

FYI-So far, I'm staying away from using iCloud. I've read a number of reviews of iCloud and Outlook, and your description fits with what I was readnig. I'm just merging, backingup etc. to my computer. I'll wait awhile before trying iCloud, syncing with WiFi, etc. :-)

Ellen,

Don't blame u AT ALL!!! Lol

But, FOR ME, once I said no to keep the stuff it couldn't merge & cleaned up the duplicates already on my iCloud calendar...I will tell u it works nicely & I haven't found that I lost any entries in my calendar or contacts. But again, I only had like 30 contact entries to begin with & when my old iPod crashed last year & I set up my bee one, my calendar only went back to 2009 anyway. I use my calendar 4 everything to keep track of everything! Lol so I have a record Of not only appts but when I do something or order something! Lol

Just glad it's syncing 4 u!

Take care,

Jimmy

Yes! same problem. just upgraded to OS5 - glad I didn't have time to do it earlier and had to wait. Did it after a sync wiped out all my contacts and I had to restore from a back-up. After updating to OS5 (on laptop w/ OS 10.6.8), tried to sync my calendar and contacts (as I do at the end of every work day), and itunes just froze. No matter which order I turned on itunes or plugged in itouch. Froze about 5 times and I just gave up. Never got to the sync screen.

This is so disappointing. I used to worship Apple. I hate Lion and hate the latest Lion update - makes my monitor overscan so image bleeds off the edges of the screen. I will not upgrade my laptop to lion.

Anyone have a fix?

Nov 30, 2011 9:07 AM in response to mitchellfromirvington

Mitchellfromirvington, what you described is the route I am currently taking- and it's working! After HOURS and HOURS of trying literally every fix on these discussion threads, I finally restored my iPod (4th gen) and set it up as a new iPod (instead of restoring it from a backup). It's currently doing it's first sync, and everything looks happy. Here's hoping...

Anways, thanks for the first solution that is actually working!

After going nuts trying to fix the sync problems on my iphone I was wary of the update to 5.01, and I was very disappointed when that didn't fix it.

Until a couple of days later when I realised it was syncing normally and completing the sync! I didn't read through all of the posts in between my original and this, but if you haven't let your device do the next upgrade yet - think about it 🙂

I am basically a ios/mac newbie. I couldn't get my iphone to sync for about a month now, and I finally took the time to search. I couldn't get it to sync no matter what, until I turned off the icloud on the phone, turned all the other settings for icloud OFF and did NOT click on "back up to icloud" on itunes. It's now finally on step 6 of syncing.

Dec 4, 2011 12:20 PM in response to Tjoeb123

I am beside myself as I cannot get my iPhone 4s and iPad to sync my photos correctly. I did NOT have this issue with iPad+iPhone 3gs (4.3) and iTunes 10.1 - everything worked just fine.

Now, I get empty folders of photos on iPad and/or iPhone - depends on which one was last done and results are at best hit or miss. I've tried all the suggestions of clearing iPod Photo Cache, wiping my iPad to a virgin state, etc.

Eventually, it is all messed up and tells me to check Itunes for more information on sync errors which is especially madding since iTunes doesn't tell you anything.

Worst release of software I've seen from Apple.

Having the same problem as everyone else here. Using the 4th generation iTouch with Windows 7. Never had a single problem with my iTouch until the latest updates. Sometimes my iTouch will sync but most of the time it will not. Also using iMatch but even if I turn that off in iTunes and my iTouch, I still have the same problem. Most of the time the message I get is "The sync session failed to start" after waiting a very long time for the sync to start. I've tried some of the tips that others have given where they suggest shutting down the pc and then opening itunes before connecting the iTouch to the PC. Most of the time this does not work. I'd be okay with this if I thought my PC or iTouch was broken or if there was something I was doing wrong. I know this is not the case. I really wish Apple would address this problem. Of course I already sent in a complain through Apple's feedback.
