Internet Tethering unavailable after upgrading to iOs 5 - Hotpsot missing even after Network Reset

Hi,

Everything went well with the iOS 5 upgrade, except the option to turn my iPhone 4 into a hotspot.

A true problem, as I was using it frequently to tether my unlimited data plan to my iPad 2 (which is only WiFi capable).

I did reset my network setings twice without any result.

I did call my network operator (it confirmed that tethering is alowed) and the local authorized apple service (didn't had a clue).

Please help!!!

Hello, Sorinw,

In General>Network>Cellular Data Network you should have an INTERNET TETHERING menu (APN, username, password fields).

It is possible that yor operator does not alow internet tethering via mobile hotspot (make's him lose money).

But if you had it before iOS5, the menu should be there.

Worked perfectly. Thanks Georgy!!!

With Gevey it was working in 4.3.3, which was updated from Apple. This time, I had preserved the baseband 4.10.01 with redsn0w while updating to IOS5 to make Gevey Sim work and I think this removes the internet tethering feature. If it is updated with STOCK IPSW from Apple it may show up the InternetTethering settings option in General>Network>MobileData Network and filling the settings, Personal Hotspot may show up in Setting in next line after Wi-Fi

I experience the same problem with Hot Spot activated on my iPhone 4 with IOS 5. I couldn't find my iPhone name from my iPad 1. Then I realise that my BLUETOOTH was activated on my iPhone 4 because I use it to connect to my bluetooth earphone when I am driving. After switching that off, I have no problem with iethering.

I have been having similar problems since upgrading to iOS 5 as well. I don't use tethering very often, but have been paying for it since I got the Verizon iPhone 4, iOS 4.

Previously, when I wanted to connect via WiFi, it just worked. At $20 / month, for sporadic usage, that's exactly what I want to be able to do. Just connect to the phone in a pinch and move on with my day.

Since iOS 5, I'll turn the Personal Hotspot on, and my Macbook Air (SL 10.6.8) doesn't see the iPhone for a long time, if at all. Then I have to turn the Hotspot on/off, WiFi on/off, etc and go through a fair amount of frustration to finally get it to work. If I get a call or some other phone interruption, it seems I have to go through the process again.

There definitely seems to be a change/bug introduced in iOS 5 that needs to be corrected.

Miracle!

I installed TetherMe on iOS 5, it shows up in Settings but he says "TetherMe not loaded..."

I tried to start my hotspot but with no success.

After a few hours... Personal Hotspot menu appeared in Settings and i was able to turn it on.

It worked like on iOS 4 but TetherMe says same thing.

Good luck to activation!

you have to scroll completely down in the cellular data network menue.

there will be a headline called: internet-tethering. there you fill in all the informations which are required. (apn, username, password)

then you go back to general settings, reopen the network settings and you will see the hotspot function. 🙂
