SMS Mailbox Full

As soon as I updated to iOS 5, i could not receive messages because my "sms mailbox is full". It clearly wasn't too full before the update, so why did it stop me from receiving texts now? I am highly upset because I pay way too much money a month to be told my "mailbox is full". My friends got the same message, deleted ALL of their texts, and are still receiving the "mailbox is full" message. Ive googled the problem to see how many people are having problems with this, and there are several people with this problem. One suggested that you just restore as new phone. That is not a good option for everyone, especially people who talk about business over texts and need the texts for references. How can a new update be worse than the one before? I even tried to downgrade back to iOS 4.3.5 and the new software wont allow it 😠. As much as I love the iPhone, these issues may cause me to get a different phone. Please help as soon as possible.

Same issue had not recieved a single message after "upgrading" to iOS 5. I do have a few answers though, after hours on the phone with AT&T and Apple. 75,000 text message is the limitation of the SMS application. I found through google, an application called PhoneView from ecamm(not free) that will backup and all data on the iPhone but additional it tells you the number of messages. I had 101,732 messages on my iPhone 4. This is becauseI've had an iPhone since the original they were released in 2007. 101,000 message in over 4 years time. At no point was this an issue until i downloaded iOS 5. iOS4 had no problem with my amount of text messages. I was simply told to delete the messages. I wasn't explained why all of a sudden this is a problem. i have over 14GB of free space on my iPhone 4 but my "SMS Mailbox is full." I did however back up my phone and then went to reset menu on the phone and choose erase all contect and settings. After doing so I sent a message and a few minutes later I recieved all the messages from the entire day I hadn't recieved. I restored from my back and back to the same issues, so it's the amount of text messages. So now since there is no application that has the rights to manage iPhone iOS 4 or higher (i.e. iOS 5) I have to go thru and manually delete and the 27,000 messages I don't need one conversation at a time. Thanks iOS 5! 😠

hey APPLE,

this is so effed up. i too upgraded to the new iOS 5 and first of all, it kept crashing my phone. it erased everything and took at least 3 hours to update. i finally had to cancel the "restore phone" on it's 5th try. everytime it got to the end it sent an "error" message.

NOW, it says my SMS text messages are FULL and that i would not receive any until i deleted some messages.

Are you kidding me? Do you know how long i've had this phone. I don't have the time to go thru each text and decide which one's i need and which one's i don't. you better fix this problem. who are your beta testers before you guys put out new software upgrades? geez. now i wanna go back to my last operating system before i got this one. that's so lame.

FIX IT!!! 😠😠😠😠

Yep. Same here. I've been an iPhone(s) owner since the original and have never had so many issues with an "upgrade". I've touted the joys and simplicity of my iPhones (12 in the past 4 years) to all my friends who use anything else. I'm not so sure I'm feeling much joy or simplicity right now. It's ridiculous to think that a new and improved iPhone would have a lesser capacity for SMS messages - that's not progress. In addition, the Visual Voicemail isn't working - it just dials into the old fashioned voicemail list, starting with the oldest VM, and forces you to wade through messages like the throw-away mobile phones. While this new iPhone 4S has lots of cool features, I would expect the tried and true features like SMS and VVM to work as good or better than before.

I'm one very unhappy Apple Fan Boy right now. I will think long and hard about "upgrading" my other two iPhone 4 devices if this is how it's gonna be.
