Can you even imagine the joy you'll spread by telling all those users that iOS 5 Safari dosn't have a bug and a visit to a Genius will solve all their problems? You'll be more popular than Santa, I'm sure.
My IPad crashes all the time, I'm on 5.01. Not just Safari but other apps, it's really annoying. Some apps I just can't use anymore. My husband has an Ipad2 and he is not having the same problems.
So what is the reason that some people are experiencing crashes all the time and others ( like myself ) who have also updated have never seen a crash.

Seriously You are implying that everyone in the world is having the same problem as you. Now we have to think... what was it that YOU did that CAUSED the problem??
Now you did it. You're asking for personal responsibility!
Apple may be trying to forcefeed us to buying ipad 2's, out if frustration. I have
An ipad and its completely deadlocked on safari, app store, various other apps.
It makes me wonder if, Dear ole, APPLE, has a scheme up their sleeves with the IOS 5.
Especially, since they should be concerned about ALL its customer, thus running and getting
Us a simple solution, in an update. I think we should go Class Action on their Azz! My 1st Gen Apple23" monitor
Lasts longer than this (2003), is still ticking displaying for a PC. Go figure. Thank God the monitor requires
No update. I have to be quiet now...BiG Brother Apple is watching.
Apple fix us a update....your very resourceful and i believe in you. Please keep all

I have an iPad 2 and started having issues with Safari crashing right after I updated the OS.
1). Checking the Diagnostics and Usage Logs will show low memory crashes. If you are experiencing them you will see a new entry after each crash
2). After research all the forums I tried everything suggested: cleared data and cookies, rebooted, reset, cleared everything out of the multi-task area. I even did a restore.
3). I finally found a thread on MacRumors from last year on optimizing memory for the iPad 1. The first suggestion was to turn off everything under Spotlight Search that you don't use. I don't use Spotlight ever so I turned them all off. So far it's been almost 3 weeks and I have had no crashes.
I have done software development for 25+ years. This is a bug. It's one of those that is hard to reproduce at will and therefore hard to track down but still a bug. Since it is hard to track down I imagine it's on Apple's list but rated as a 2 or 3 (or whatever test/bug tracking software they use). Perhaps they will stumble across it. However, if the new iPad 3 come out with more memory it might not get addressed, ever.
Anyway, for those who have not run into it so far you may eventually hit it. If you don't, then just count yourself lucky. It may be a specific configuration + specific web site, or installed app. I've tried to track this type of bug down before. Not fun.
Please add my iPad v1 32gb wifi model to the list of machines that continually crash running the latest IOS/updates available as of Dec 2011. It is driving me nuts.
This did NOT used to happen either. Even since updating to the new IOS with tabbed safari has the issue occurred on my ipad.
Are people stil seeing crashes running alternative browser apps on the ipad?
Add my ipad2 16 to the list. IOS 5. Constantly crashes in almost any app... Safari, NetFlix, Email... Several times an hour! The Genius at the Apple Store was not much help. Suggested I try a system restore. Had tried that already with no change in this constant crashing behavior. Another new problem since iOS 5 is the flipping screen, even if the thing is perfectly still and at an obvious up-down angle. Flips like it has really bad vertigo. Suxdude.
Did you try to update it to iOS 5.1?
I have frequent LowMemory crashes running an Ipad2 with iOS 5.0.1 - I have wifi+3G and wifi only ipad2s and both have crashes.
Safari, Google App, and Bing App will all crash but by far the Google App crashes most frequently. Tried the Spotlight Search off fix and it did reduce the frequency of crashes but would still crash. Opera Browser seems to be less prone to crashing but it's interface and html rendering is pretty ugly.
Same rhing on my ipod. Well apple is comming out with a ios 5.2 so it sould just be the lattest verson. Sorry i was no help.
Been happening to me too. Starting today. Forget about browsing, much less shopping.

There's tons of other folks experiencing the same crash issues on their iPads w/ regards to Safari relating to the OS update.
None of the so called "fix its" that are being told by others in multiple threads on here will fix the crashes, as they persist after all known "fix its".
To date, there is no resolution from Apple.
If you were to search online, by google, there are tons of iPad users complaining about the crashes, just search:
iPad 2 crashes
iPad 2 safari crashes
safari crashes
iPad 2 crashes after update
iPad 2 OS 5.0.1 crashes
Even folks who are having issues on multiple web forums, those specifically supported by vBulletin, are posting the same concerns and issues of multiple, redundant Safari crashes after the OS update. Many have even uploaded their diagnostic logs to this site and others - to no avail.
Keep contacting Apple...
Keep posting your concerns/issues in that above thread - it's been growing daily.
My iOS5 update has caused the same problem with my iPad-1. Safari crashes very often, especially when I am filling out online conent such as writing on forums and such. But it also crashes when absolutely nothing is happening- such as when I am just reading a page and haven't touched the screen for a few minutes.
The other problem with iOS 5 is that typing is EXTREMELY SLOW. I can sometimes type an entire sentence or two without any words appearing on the screen. And then all of a sudden they will all appear at once.
Honestly, this update is so much worse than the original iOS. That version was lightning fast and rock solid.
I am not alone. Yes, this update to the iPad is a giant step backward. Safari crashes on my iPad several times a day. Very annoying. It could happen when I click on a link, or filling out a form, or just a random thing. At first I thought it crashed because I had too many apps open. Now I only keep a few apps open, but there still is no change in Safari crashing. Yes, the previous version of Safari was much better. And I really liked the mini pages in the "old" Safari - not a fan of the tabs for the iPad.
