iMessage not working on iPad

Well I have successfully upgraded both my iPad 2 and iPhone 4 to iOS 5 however the only feature I can not get to work properly is the iMessage. I can you iMessage on my iPhone no problem between other iMessage friends. The problem is being able to do like they advertise and be able to pick up on the iMessage from my iPad.

I did seem to notice that the iPad likes to use email addresses instead of phone numbers is that true?? If so does that mean on my iPhone I need to start an iMessage using email instead of phone number? I also tried sending an iMessage to my friends apple I'd email that has iOS5 and it's says he does not have the ability to use iMessage with that email (in red with ! Next to email and phone number). To me that seems to silly and not apple like. So I am hoping that I am missing a setting or something to get this fixed.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Caleb

Ok. Try this:

Turn off iMessage on iPhone but leave it on with iPad 2.

Now attempt to send a message on iPad to someone to whose you successfully sent one on your iPhone.

If it works, then go back and turn iMessage on with iPhone.

This worked for me and I was able to see the conversation on both devices.

Remember, the message sent on iPad while iMessage was turned off on iPhone will be a new conversation on both devices.

Some folks have also tried setting their network DNS to 8.8.8.8 and that seemed to work. Apparently, this was previously a fix for some FaceTime issue.

Mine was working properly on Ipad 1 last night but friend who has 4S, 4 and Ipad is trying to get all her devices to work properly. I am now getting from her addresses, all devices but I can't reply unless I add a photo to the message. Ghe send button is greyed out. Last night I tried a photo and all went well but then messaging was working well. Today I can only create/send if I add a photo. She can then receive and reply normally from any of her devices I believe.

Try adding a photo and see if you can send. Weird behavior.

I have experienced the same issue on my iPad and my daughters iPod. We have seperate itunes accounts, I have checked and rechecked the email addresses used. They are correct and verified by messages. I have tried the google dns several times with no success. I have restet my wifi, forgotten and reconnected to the wifi network, reset both devices and nothing has worked. I can message myself but not my daughter. She can message her self but not me. We see each other with the blue bubble but the messages do not work. On th iPod the sed bar stops at about the 90% mark before getting a not delivered error message. With the iPad there are no messages, errors, notifications of any kind. Any suggestions/ ideas on resolving this would be appreciated. Thanks
