ios 5 + car + dock + bt = problem

Problem 1 - The phone switches to BT after 50 seconds instead of using the dock contact. It has been a problem in every ios 5 build and it survived into release. Manually choosing dock contact = fine for 50 seconds then it swaps again.

Anyone else got this? I do not want to play music through BT - I want it through dock contact. Telephone works great through BT as it should.

This worked fine in all earlier ios releases - its a ios 5 problem.

My car is a 2011 Volvo V60 - I do not want to firmware update my car even - it is innocent!

Problem 2 - Docking it in car - It very often forget what album it was playing and start to play songs in an alphabetical order starting with A

Problem 3 - Playing music through Synology app for example works great for one song and then it take a random song from iphone player instead.

Same problem goes for playing radio with example Tunein Radio.

I am not sure if I have missed a few comments after yours, but I have experienced the same issues as other Volvo users with the following observations.

I have a 2010 V70 (no Sensus) and a 2012 V70 delivered on 3 March 2012 (with Sensus). These are both UK models. I have an Apple 4S running IOS 5.1, just updated from 5.0.1.

In my 2010 V70 I can make and receive Bluetooth phone calls and, using the Apple iPhone cable connected to the USB socket, I can connect to the stereo system and play all my music from my iPhone. I am able to select music by artist, album, song etc as displayed on the iPhone music icon.

In my 2012 V70 I can make and receive Bluetooth phone calls using the voice activated hands-free system, or using the stored data relating to last dialled calls etc. If I connect the iPhone to the USB cable and socket, I can play music for about 50 seconds until the sound drops completely. I can stream music via Bluetooth, but that obviously does not have the functionality of the USB wired device. I have Bluetooth version 5.00.17S and map software version 09F5.

According to my dealer there is an update from Volvo which will fix the problem. It may seem as though it is a problem with Apple programming, but if my iPhone 4S works with the older version of the Volvo Bluetooth/USB and not with the new Sensus system, then surely there is a problem with the latest Volvo hardware and/or software?

Apologies if I am being monumentally thick here - but:

My car was delivered 2 days ago. It has Sensus version 5.00.17S

My phone is up to date with the latest version of IOS5.

However if I connect via the USB port to charge and control my iphone I need to disable my Bluetooth or I don't get any sound. It works for about 30 seconds and then the sound drops out as described above.

So I can either control my iPhone (as an ipod) *OR* use my phone, but not both. This is ridiculous.

However my reading of the above says 5.00.17S should fix this? It already comes with this version installed?!?!

I took my car to the dealer on 15 March for a Sensus update, as this appears to be the problem. Why this is not sorted by the dealer before the vehicle is issued to the customer I really don't know. The update still has the same version of the map software and the same Bluetooth version, ie the same as yours, as before the car went in last week.

My iPhone 4S also has the latest version of IOS5.

I can now use the phone connected to the USB port to play music and charge the phone without the music stopping after 50 seconds. I can stream music via Bluetooth, but obviously cannot scroll through artists etc as this facility does not work in the Bluetooth mode.

This software update really ought to be a PDI check by the dealer, as I had to drive a 100 mile round trip to get the problem fixed and all the dealers must be aware of the issue as there was a technical bulletin issued on 11 January 2012.

Hello Upset v70 driver,

5.00.17s is your BLUETOOTH version. Sensus should be 09F5 (can be seen in navigation/settings/system information).

But even if you have these versions, there is an "non seen" update für the IAM from the dealer. It consists of 3 to 5 separate updates for modules in the system.

I allready had the updates in approx. january, but even with the correct versions above, the dealer had to renew the IAM upgrade a week ago because there where new changes.

Everyone an answer to this problem is in appstore. There is an app called A2DPblocker. What it makes is it disables iPhone's bluetooth stereo audio transmission and still allows all other bluetooth functions to work normally. Works perfectly in my 3 days old 2012 Volvo V70 with USB and bluetooth.

Hi!

Does this new updates also cure the previously remaining problems?

Most annoying, is the need to disconnect the iPhone before startnig the car and then reconnect after BT pairing has completed, if you like to use the Docking Cable connection.

I have sometimes trips, where I leave the car every 10-15 minutes or so, so this procedure is really a pain. I have to usee BT, with it's limitations on those trips.

Hi,

no, that is a problem and will be at all cars because the iPhone always uses the last music connection. This is always bluetooth because it is not as fast connected as the dock cable.

I have a simple solution in my V60: Brodit holder in the middle were I put the iPhone in first loose and when the BT connection is up, I give it a short kick to connect with the dock.

Here is a simple how to for installation from me in a german forum:

I am afraid that the answer is no, it does not. The problem is with the way in which the software communicates with the iPhone via the USB dock. As I said before (see 12 March posting) the older version of the Volvo software in a 2010 V70 works fine with the iPhone being connected to the USB cable, and then removed from the car, and then working seamlessly with the car to play music when the phone is connected again having been removed from the car for a while.

Since my car had the software update last week it does not work seamlessly, and when you remove the phone from the USB cable and then reconnect it will not play the music without disconnecting the USB cable and reconnecting it. The software update has fixed the problem with playing music over the USB connection as it does not now drop the sound, but the problem with continuity of music sound still remains if you remove the iPhone from the USB cable as you would be doing in the way you mention that you are driving and stopping every 10 minutes or so.

I don’t understand why the Volvo software programmers have not been able to resolve the issue, as it is not a problem in an older car with exactly the same pieces of kit and connection cable.

Jurgen’s pictures are fantastic, and the installation has obviously provided a solution to his problem, but it cannot be beyond the wit of a programmer to write a piece of code to rectify the problem.

Mar 22, 2012 6:15 AM in response to beancounter55

As I said: The Volvo programmers have no chance to solve this - it's an APPLE iOS problem.

Again in short:

- Apple uses LAST connection for music "out"

- no option in iOS to define preferred music channel

- no option in iOS to disable BT-music (A2DP)

- dock is ready immediately

- BT needs time to come up, so it is "LAST", so it is choosen after the cable connection

A 2010 Volvo V70 does not have bluetooth music connection, so this is not relevant here.

The Volvo programmers could also realize an option to disable BT music in Sensus - but I think this should be part of the music device (as it obiously is on some other devices). There are many problems with iPhone and the connection on BT also with headsets and so on, not only with cars...

The APP A2DP Blocker is not THE alternative solution, because it has to run in the foreground always on the iPhone. 😟

I have just collected my new Volvo V60 Volvo Ocean Race.

I have paired my iPhone 4s with the car.

Everything was okay until I connected the iPhone with the docking port.

Now when I play music and connect my iPhone to the docking port. I see that it's playing, but do not hear music.

I have to manually select docking port in my iPhone to hear music playing.

Controlling the music play and selecting another song is sometimes possible and sometimes not.

Has anyone found an solution?

Thnx
