iOS5 not syncing with yahoo contacts

Hi

Since I have done the iOS5 update my yahoo contacts are not syncing properly, any contacts I add to the phone are not uploading to yahoo, but if I add a contact to yahoo it downloads fine. Although now we have iCloud, thats no good to me. I use yahoo mail and need my contacts stored on there.

Is anybody else have this problem or now how to resolve this issue?

Thanks

Perry

I'm now back to square one. Tonight I updated my ipad2 to iOS 5 with the aim to have my Yahoo contacts syncing across my iDevices. Unfortunately, this does not seem possible. Since I linked my iPad2, my two way sync no longer works. I can create contacts in the iDeivice and it will sync to Yahoo, but it will not sync across to the other device. Also, if I create a contact on Yahoo, it does not sync to either device.

I sent a support request to yahoo to find out if this is a known limitation.

Although not really the solution I want to end up with, I have found that the iCloud contact sync works very well. If yahoo does not want to support a multi-device sync, I will stick with iCloud or go back to using iTunes to sync with yahoo contacts.

I was having same sync issue, not updating between iPhone <> Yahoo

I revisited the yahoo instructions:

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/contacts/basics/contactsbasics-11.html

and they seem to indicate a new server for the CardDAV account:

Step 5

If you are on iOS software version 4.1, you need to enter yahoo.com as the server. If you are using an older version to iOS 4, you can enter carddav.address.yahoo.com

changing to yahoo.com fixed it for me!

mikeguk - when you claim it fixed it for you - do you mean you can sync up contacts both ways (adding contacts to Yahoo will download automatically over the air to your phone)?

I have tried using just Yahoo - I get my contacts to sync, but not both ways. Any new contacts added to my Yahoo.com will not appear on my phone.

I am up to my 5th email to Yahoo and it's a big joke. Pre-canned answers that are completely bogus and not addressing the issue.

Hi all, I've the same problem of rico79. My contacts are sync in just one way (from iOS to yahoo.com all fine, but nothing in the other way). I have tried adding a Yahoo account and enabling the sync contacts, and also adding to my iPad2 a cardDav account. But always the same result. And the same sync issue. The only workaround to get all my yahoo contacts is: delete the sync account from the device (disable the contacts toggle), then exit from the app and re-enable the toggle. Not the best way, but a solution...

Any helps appreciated!

hi guys,

I am having the same problem.

I spent this whole day searching for a way to make things work. NOTHING.

I have done everything: deleted me.com account from ipod touch, deleted and restored yahoo account, set it up a first time by activating both default calendars and contats options,

then by unchecking them and activating the caldav / carddav solutions: nothing

a first sync works, but then nothing more.

does anyone of you know a good provider with carddav and caldav integration?

btw calendar works fine indeed. I have set it up also with Thunderbird and it really works fine

I'm having the same problem and have tried everything over the last few days.

On Sunday I finally got the Iphone 4 to download all of my contacts, however changes made do not sync between my Macbook and the Iphone.

It seems that while there are a few workarounds available, there is a bigger issue that needs to be resolved between both Yahoo and Apple.

Guys - I have been relentelessly going after Yahoo, and exhausted all possible solutions.

The last tech said it was an Apple issue, so I had a lenghty support call this morning with an Apple tech.

He consulted amongst the engineering group and the Yahoo OTA sync is currently a known issue and they are looking to address it in their upcoming iOS5 bug fixes.

He says the only method that is known to work for the moment is to connect the iPhone via iTunes and then it will sync both ways.

Let's monitor how it goes.. hopefully the iOS5 update will come soon!

The contact issues were the final straw for me, this seems to be a yahoo problem...... That's what apple informed me. Even went to "genuis" at the sstore...said the same thing....Yahoo is for sale, not making money...no big surprise that they never seem to respond to tech issues; this was just too much bother............So I gave up on yahoo mail after over 10 yrs. switched to gmail. All works well.

I am QUITE tempted to move over to gmail - I have an email setup there for a few yrs and never used it. I just tested it (exported my Yahoo address book to Gmail, and in 10 seconds, everything was pushed to my iPhone).

Ahhhhhh!! I'm in love!

I also kicked off the Yahoo auto import address, so all my inbox /mail folders will be imported.

consider myself switched!!!

Viva Google!

FYI...i did not have success importing my mail from yahoo using the Gmail importer. It stalled after 2 days and did not progress after 5 days...But this is a workaround that will work..

So...after researching mail import between accounts and reading lots of posts and checking with my IT group, i found a simple way to transfer emails from Yahoo to Gmail. requires a little savvy..but not much:

1. download thunderbird email client http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/

2. Install thunderbird and setup an IMAP yahoo account...fairly self-explanatory..might need to make sure that the POP/forwarding option for yahoo is checked...in my case it did not matter...its not a pop acct anyway.

3. let the account populate...all the folders will be there.

4. you will need to open each folder to make sure all the mail has been downloaded and is there...may take several hours...I had an inbox with 3000+ and it took a good 30min for just that folder.

5. Now, setup another account...your gmail account..BUT first go to gmail and.make sure its IMAP option is turned on in your gmail settings

6. OK, let your gmail acount populate the folders (yeah I know they are labels).

7. then ... and this is very cool...just drag the folders you want from the yahoo account to the gmail account. Or you can just mark individual messages or groups of messages and drag them into the Gmail account.

8. I had some odd named folders in Yahoo and the would not drag as primary folders, so i had to place them as subfolders in the Gmail structure...but easy to reorganize and fix once you get back to Gmail.

9. Make sure you wait for all the messages and folders to copy into Gmail and load up to the server....may take a while.

10. once the dust settles and it seems like no more copying is happening (check thunderbird's status info in the lower left). you can close thunderbird and head back to Gmail...and it's all good.

11. I was a little worried i might lose my Yahoo messages, so after they donloaded to Thunderbird i closed thunderbird and I backed up my thunderbird profile by making a copy and just sticking it another folder. (the profile is in c>users>'username'>appdata>roaming>thunderbird)...but it wasn't necessary as it worked fine.

email me if you need help...

woah... thank you! That's quite generous of you!

I have pasted those steps in Notepad and will go through that. I do suspect that the import feature will stall... it already seems stuck after 1/2hr... and it only imported 49 emails.

Should I just halt the process and go simply go with your solution?

I just don't want to end up with duplicates.
