I may just pop in tomorow, I can show them in 10 Seconds how crap it is. It worked fine on 4.3, Apple said there engineers wanted to see it, I sent them a letter stuck to the iPAd telling them which forum to log into, it would have crashed with 20 seconds, they returned it no fault found, as said it then crashed within 10 seconds of using the forum I told them about. They then collected mine again, then sent a New replacement unit as I rmy origernal was a much use as a paperweight. Replacement excactly the same as the first one. I've now told them to collect that one and give me a refund under the Sales of goods act, section 14, having given them plenty of time to fix/repair the unit. They want to talk to me on the phone but I want everything in writing. However may call into shop tomorrow morning just for further evidence, thanks for the tip ;-)

A detailed analysis of your crash log indicates

Philly, could you elaborate? This thread points to UIWebView memory management. Which part of the crash log specifically suggests it is a hardware problem instead?

I ask because (again, if you look at the thread) several posters have done what you suggest, only to be told to restore/replace the device, which does not solve the problem. I believe someone was even told that engineers were aware of the memory management issue.

Already been there and done that. I made the mistake of telling them that my web developers identified a JavaScript bug in the webkit. I was referred on to Tier II support who forwarded the case to Apple's development group. Their response was for me to purchase a developer's subscription and file a TSI - case closed. I attempted to re-open the Tier II support case but to date get no response.

I would go back to the Genius Bar but I expect to get the same run-around. As CTO of my international company, I've got better things to do than spin my wheels over a failed experiment. I expect that one day the problem will be fixed and when it is, I'll either pull my iPads out of moth balls or have another solution in place and it won't matter.

That was a big mistake. When you identify a CAUSE of the problem, a logical response is to address what YOU have identified. As a CUSTOMER, your obligation is to demonstrate the problem and then let them decide what to do about it. Heck, would you care if the problem were fixed by sprinkling fairy dust on it?

Ask that the Restore be done IN THE APPLE STORE and, if it does not solve the problem, ask for a replacement. If the replacement also fails, ask for another and another and another. Honestly, if you consider the quantity of devices that are NOT having the problem, the odds are very much in your favor with a replacement.

Don't walk out of the store without a functioning unit or a refund!

I wouldn't care if putting it in the delicate wash cycle with a rinkle free drying out fixed it if that's what Apple recommends and it works. I realize that my mentioning my developers put me on a wrong path but I don't see going back to the genius bar again or replacing the units makes sense either when I know the problem isn't hardware. I personally think the hardware is fine. On the up side, Tier II did mention that they were aware of the problem so obviously I wasn't the first to report it. I take some comfort in that so I guess it's now a waiting game. Come on iOS 5.0.2.

Philly_Phan,

Here is the post about Apple acknowledging it is not isolated, and referring it to their devs:

This thread is about an issue that is directly correlated to the iOS5 update, hence the title "Safari crashes on iPad after ios 5 update". Many of us had been using the hardware for many months with no problems at all until the update. I agree that Apple should be able to supply you with a working iPad, but if it is a software memory issue, I don't think hardware replacement is a logical resolution.

I asked you about the crash log because you said 'a detailed analysis' pointed to hardware. What/where was that analysis?

Please put this acknowledgment in perspective. ONE Apple individual acknowledged a problem and that one individual did not indicate that the IOS is involved.

On the other hand, if it is a hardware issue, then hardware replacement is very definitely a logical resolution.

Please read my previous response to you.

I have the exact same problem. on top of that my IPad became very slow after upgrading to IOS 5.01. it. Is worth noting that the Financial Times App does the same thing (and doesn't use Flash). I have 22gb of free memory

I have deleted my bookmarks

I have switched off the bookmark sync in ICloud. This has helped on speed.

But Safari and FT still crash.
