Hi all,

First at all I do not have an iPad 1 but are using two iPad 2 with iOS 5.

Both of them never crashed even when used with Chinese and Japanese websites ;).

So I would guess it is a problem with the webkit engine for the iPad 1. Most of the browsers in the AppStore use the same engine and us such will suffer the same issues. But as far as I know the "opera" browser uses it is own engine.

It is freely available just search for "opera".

- Install it

- power cycle the iPad

- And use it for some days

- then come back and say if it helped

Lastly I am not working for Opera and prefer Safari anytime over it, so Apple please fix this issue as I am also using your webkit engine in my products.

Hope this helped someone

My IPad1 IOS 5 has same problems.

I have been to the Apple store multi times. Last week they gave me a new IPad 1.

Starting fresh, I was hoping the crash issue would end. "NOT" Same thing, except even more so.

Now after crashing and turning itself off, I have problems being able to retart.

I would think after the totally high numbers of us having same issues, Apple would respond with some

assurance of a fix in progress. I might as well trade mine in for a paper weight

Been following this trail for a while - somewhere a long way back, I flagged the OS X Lion video (http://www.apple.com/uk/macosx/whats-new/#video-lion) as one that would crash my iPad consistently. Interested in this exchange about whether or not it crashes the iPad - mine just crashed Safari. Screen goes black, then back to the normal iPad home screen.

Have you turned on the Debug Console in Safari? After many times resetting, wiping and reloading everything on my iPad 1, turning on the Debug Console is the only thing that has given me any insight into Safari crashes. If you look at the error messages noted by the Debug Console, Facebook plugins to Safari are nearly always the cause of error messages, so that says to me something needs to be fixed on that front. I also have seen improved performance by having only one tab open at a time, and by periodically (at least once a day) clearing the Safari history. And yes, I have gone through the whole troubleshooting thing with Apple support, and beyond determining that there is nothing wrong with my iPad they had no other useful ideas. Turning on the Debug console was the only thing I could think of to try after Apple was no help.

I hope you get better results. In addition to my other suggestions, you might want to try setting up the new replacement iPad as a new iPad, rather than restoring from the old iTunes file. Then download your paid-for apps directly from the App Store, that way you rule out any bad app files. Good luck to you and let us know what happens. Tasa
