While I appreciate any suggestions which might help the myriad bugs in iOS5, it's beyond outrageous that a 'fix' would be deleting an email account! My iCloud email is my primary personal account and this isn't an option. I am once again going to the genius bar tomorrow. I'm going to put this on their shoulders to solve. I should not have to do these inconvenient work-arounds on an expensive device which worked perfectly before this defective 'upgrade' was offered as a means to improve that device. I've read many posts here which tell of their iPads becoming bricks. How is this ok? Why should a consumer have to put up with that? This isn't a matter of a device becoming outmoded and, oh, we'll just deal with it and buck up and buy a newer model. No. This was a fabulous, perfectly functional device that was made crappy by software that was designed to improve it. I'm really sick of spitting into the wind here. You all are great, but I need more than group therapy at this point.
Take care.
I hope that Apple is working on a fix (I wouldn't even mind them gimping the iOS5 specifically for the iPad1 for an iOS4-level performance), but the fact that Apple was quite negligent in releasing a major upgrade that basically incapacitated a multi hundred-dollar machine frustrates me.
I hope this -- whether intentional dissing of customers or accidental oversignt -- is not a pattern we can expect often from now on.
cynthiafromNB,
I want to confirm for you and others that the iPad 2 is no better off. I purhased a number of 64Gb iPad 2's for my company. iOS 5 was installed on them at purchase. Right now my company is sitting on thousands of dollars of brand new and useless iPads. It's pathetic when the core functionality of the iPad is so broken that we can't pull up our corporate web sites without Safari crashing 100% of the time. What's worse is it isn't just Safari that's broken. Any web browser that uses Apple's WebKit foundation crashes too. There appears no workaround.
I sorely regret the day I made the decision to by iPads for my company - a true waste of money in an economy where my capital could have been better spent on a competitor's product that, while not perfect either, at least has a working web browser.
@Hank LV - That's terrible! Is Apple working with you to make this right?
Hey Apple! Are you listening to this??? Let's get off your butt(s) and resolve this!
Apple does not participate on this forum. It is a user-to-user technical help forum with no Apple presence, other than hosting and administration.

I have the same issue but ALL MY APPS ON IPAD 2 Crashes (App Closes and come to home screen) ....what should i do ?
Pls read the posts on fixing this issue. I had my iPad crashing all the time after doing the 5.0 upgrade. I don't know about so called virus issues etc but can tell you this.
Put your iPad into DFU mode and DO NOT RESTORE, restart, reinstall the software and set it up as a " NEW IPAD". Once done reinstall your apps. After I did this the crashes stopped. This is the resolution to this problem as far as I can see. It's been 3 wks since I did this and never crashed again.
A RESTORE alone won't fix it,
Hope this helps
George
True enough.... for newspapers you simply cannot use the back button now! I don't get this.
I turned off multitouch gestures on my original iPad and it seems to have helped. No more terrible lag when I pull up the keyboard and start typing. Maybe that's why they didn't initially include multitouch in the 5.0.1 update. Try it, see if it works for you.
Well after a conversation with a freind, she was saying how Apps can be the issue. With that I did a (another) 'From NEW' fresh install (have done it before), only this time I didn't load any of my apps so the iPad2 was as if it had just come new out of the box. Within ten minutes Safar had crashed about 6 times whilst trying to reply on a forum I use.
I called Apple support and told them that I had basically got a 'paper weight' as the iPad was unusable, after going through many things how spoke to there technical team, after about 5 minutes he came back and said that there 'technical dept' would like to see my iPad. They had it collected from me the next day, whahoo.. success, or so I thought, I have had an email from them saying that they couldn't replicate the problem!! FFS it's the easist thing to do, it wouldn't work for more than 2 minutes without crashing.
Anyway, it should be back today / tomorrow and it will be interesting to see if they have 'fixed' it, but are not admitting there is a problem, or if it is excactly the same as it was before I sent it away... I'll let you know asap :-)
I Have just laid it out to Apple at www.apple.com/feedback all the issues I have been having since updating to iOs5 software, I.e., Safari crashing, problems with the back button on Safari, problems with bookmarks in iBooks, and blank pages showing up in calendar. All the problems I identified in my original post on Safari crashing after update to iOs5. I probably won't hear from them;but if I do, I'll post their response here. Hang in there folks.
Well I submitted at the feedback page too; I've been waiting for about three weeks now. I doubt either of us will hear back.
Right then everybody, my ipad was returned with 'No fault found' I started it up and within 2 minutes it had crashed. Apple are now sending me a new iPad 2.
The person I spoke to said they don't get many calls about iPads crashing, I told her of this support page and all of the unhappy owners, they said nobody checks on here.
Everybody who has a problem with them crashing Must phone Technical support and register your unhappness. I called 0844 209 0611 (UK) and wouldn't get off the phone until they sorted it out.
Good luck and don't give in :-)
My iPad 1 developed the same set of symptoms focused on Safari, Zite, FlipBoard, Paprika, and anything else which loads up a web page. I have a long file of log entries of out or memory errors with these apps. Never a problem with iOS 4. I sent a link to this thread to the official feedback site. Tomorrow, I think I'll call apple and speak with them. I'm two hours away from Seattle Apple Stores or I'd make a genius appt. right away. This has become my own Occupy Apple crusade, I think. Will add any developments beyond what is already here ASAP.
One of my messages to Apple is to realize that secrecy and surprise is fabulous coming up to the Just One More Thing moment. Fabulous. But, once I have purchased something and have joined the family, secrecy and denial is deadly. It really *****. Apple will not penetrate industry, really, if they go silent to the IT guys. Industry has no time for that sort of crap. I hope that post SJ(RIP) the company can find a way to make that distinction in relationships and be more grown up about sharing what's true. Not holding my breath.
