Can Icloud sync with google calendar and gmail?

So far, I have not found a solution to make this work in the post-Lion world. If someone has one, I'd be happy to hear it.

Here is my method, not free but functional.

Install BusyCal, subscribe to your iCloud calendar and your Google calendar, publish the iCloud calendar to your Google account, select the new calendar (in Google Preferences) and you are done. Do not (also) publish the Google calendar to the iCloud account, that way lies many dulicates.

Okay, I think I may give that a try. BusyCal is indeed pricey (but cheaper than what I paid for SpanningSync), but if it works, then it's worth it.

It works, I use it to collect various calendars (incluing my work Exchange calendar) and publish them all to Google, I find it the best way to see them all. All are 2 way except Exchange (employer policy prevails over technology)

To set up CalDAV support for Google Calendar in Apple's iCal, follow these steps:

1. Open Apple iCal, go to Preferences and then the Accounts tab.
2. Click on the + button to add an account.
3. In the box that pops up, enter a description for the account and your Google Account username and password.
4. Under Server Options, add the following URL:
   https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/YOUREMAIL@DOMAIN.COM/user//www.google.com/calendar/dav/YOUREMAIL@DOMAIN.COM/user
   Replace 'YOUREMAIL@DOMAIN.COM' with the email address that you use to log in to Calendar. Make sure to include the '@domain.com' portion (which is @gmail.com for Gmail users) in this section.
   DO NOT substitute your username for 'user' at the end of the URL.
5. Leave the Use Kerberos v5 for authentication option unchecked.
6. Click Add.
7. Under the Delegation tab, select the calendars you'd like to add to iCal by checking the boxes next to them. You may need to hit refresh to get the latest list of calendars.
8. Add your email address to your Address Book card by selecting Add Email. You'll be prompted to add your email address only if your address is not already in your Address Book.

You won't be able to invite or email guests to Google Calendar events within iCal if your address is not in your Address Book.

Your Google Calendar will now appear in iCal's list of calendars, and changes you make to your Google Calendar in iCal will be reflected when you sign in to Google Calendar.

Event information will automatically refresh every five minutes. You can change this interval by opening the iCal > Preferences > Accounts menu and selecting a new refresh interval under the 'Refresh calendars' drop-down. Keep in mind you can also force a refresh by selecting a calendar and pressing the Apple and R keys at the same time.

Calendars that are checked but disabled have already been added to iCal - you can remove them from within iCal.

If you want to sync your Google Calendar with the iCal application on Mac OS X Lion, then follow the guide below outlining how to do this. You will need your Google Account information including a two-step verification password for iCal if you have that set up. This information can be found here.

Step 1) Open iCal located in the Applications folder.

Step 2) Go to iCal Preferences by pressing "CMD + ," or by clicking iCal > Preferences.

Step 3) Select Accounts and press the plus symbol in the bottom left corner.

Step 4) Under Account Type, select Google.

Step 5) Enter in your Google credentials. If you have two-step verification set up on your account, follow the link above in order to get an application specific password for iCal.

Step 6) Press Create and your Google Calendar should start syncing. You can select the interval at which you wish the account to sync on the Accounts section of iCal Preferences.

Sadly this doesn't seem to work the way it should. I spent an hour at the Genius Bar trying to get my Google Calendar to work with Apples Calendar 6.0 (why did they change it from iCal?) and we couldn't. There appear to be server issues on Googles side.

So far as I can tell, macAddict69, you can't use that method to then take the synced data and post to iCloud. You can only connect the same calendar to Google or iCloud, but not both.

I’m running Calendar 6.0 on OS 10.8.1 (Mountain Lion). I find that I can easily view and manage my google calendars via the Mac Calendar program, but I can not find a way to easily upload my local calendar events to the google calendar server.

To View and Manage a google calendar with Mac Calendar:

1) Go to Calendar/Preferences…

2) Click the “Accounts” tab.

3) On the left, at the bottom of the box, click “+”

4) A box should pop up titled, “Add an account”

5) Type in your gmail address and password

6) Hit create

Within 30 seconds, the OS had found my google account and synched Mail, Calendar, Notes, and Messages.

Apparently it parses the “gmail.com” server name and sends the request to the correct address at google. Later, I was able to unsynch with google messages, as I didn’t want this service.

This allows me to view and edit google calendar entries via the Mac Calendar program. However, it does not let me view my Mac Calendar events on google.

The functionality I want is to simply share my local Mac Calendar events with someone else… just to let them view them. The person is not on iCloud, so I apparently have to find a WebDav server somewhere to publish to.

I followed the following method and it works well. The idea is to sync the old and new contents of the iCal to google calendar;

After creating a google calendar account like it was mentioned above, go to preferences again, in the general tab choose your google calendar as the default calendar; this will make all new entries to the iCal to be directly on google calendar so it syncs through all your google accounts.

Second; I went to iCal and put it on a larger view, like the month or the year view, press command and A to select all entries, then double fingre click (right click) on any entry, then stay on the calendar submenu, and then click on your google calendar, and this will move all your older entries from iCal iCloud to the google calendar. you only need to do the last step once as from now on all the new entries will go directly to the google calendar.

An alternative is to export the single calendar that you want to move. Choose the calendar you want to move, then select File -> Export -> Export… . Calendar (ML) or iCal (Lion) will ask you where to save the calendar data. After saving, select File -> Import -> Import... and open the exported file you just saved. iCal/Calendar will ask you where to put the imported items. Select your Google calendar.

At this point, you will have two copies of your events in iCal: one from your original calendar and one in the Google calendar. If you are happy with the transfer, delete the original calendar.

While raluka's suggestion is faster (and easier), I like the added security of having a copy of the calendar data before making big changes like this. It also ensures you move all data from a calendar instead of relying on what is selected.

Thank you! I was having trouble syncing shared calendars on my iphone 4s and all i had to do was go to : http://www.google.com/calendar/iphoneselect and select my shared calendars. I had tried adding the calendars 3 ways, through adding Gmail account, adding as an exchange account, and finally adding as Icloud account. None worked for shared calendars (only the personal calendar) until I went to above link. Thanks!!
