You can upload a pages files into pdf file but I did not find the way to put a PDF on the cloud...
Right but you can't open them on an ios device, because there is no preview app. Am I missing something?
Either the ability to view PDF's on iOS is yet-to-be-released via a Preview app or functionality in iBooks, or the ability to upload PDF's is merely for use on other Macs.
I asked this EXACT same question in this post:
Got to give icloud a c+ not at the usual Apple of level of product. So much promise and possibility but really not all that useful compared to competitors like dropbox.
I've rated it an A- so far, mostly because I use it to its current full potential. I believe that Apple is doing a phased rollout of functionality to ensure that the existing functions operate properly with new functions. They obviously learned lessons from the MobileMe "kick it out the door and fix it on the backed" debacle. I assume that either Apple will give iCloud PDF access in iBooks down the road, add a PDF tab to the web access, or open it up for third-party developers like Adobe to access.
iCloud is good BUT... seems to be too dificult to use... let me explain...
I've saved iWork documents to iCloud and can open them fine from the application in iWork. I can also see them on the iCloud if I log into my web interface.
Tried to place a file in email from the paper clip button today and all I saw was an empty folder. Panic! Where have all my docs gone.
Logged into web and sure enough they;re all there.
Apple have got this wrong somehow.
I'm on Mountain Lion with the latest updates.
PDF files can be saved to iCloud BUT... not retreived! Now that's just stupid!!!
NOT THE APPLE WAY AT ALL!
Attached the pdf to an email. email the attached to youself. Open the email (let's say, on your ipad) and download the pdf. Then click on the top right icon that says, open in... I open in iBooks. You now have it on your ipad. You can do the same for your ipod, or iphone. I hope this helps.
Or you can also just get GoogleDocs, Dropbox, MS Skydrive all free and use those. I have all three installed on my Macbook, iPad, and iPhone. Much easier than emailing yourslef the docs and they are all three much eaiser to use than the method above, especially for multiple documents.
I use Dropbox which works great. I just do not see the point of having Preview in the cloud when there is no ios version of Preview. It would be much simpler to transfer PDF's on icloud.
I agree...Hopefully in a future release or another product, Apple will have a more versatile cloud storage product..
I feel really disappointed; I bought a good amount of Icloud storage thinking it would be easy to use, but I realize now that other cloud services work a lot better, most scanners save your documents in PDF format or as an image (jpg, bmp) but PDF is just easier to handle, so I guess I will keep backing up my documents using Skydrive for free...
From preview, go to "File" "Print". Then in the print menu on the bottom left hand side click on "pdf". Then click on add to iTunes. Once the file is in itunes you can sync your ios and the pdf appears in iBooks
While your description is accurate, it is not what we are talking about here. We are talking about accessing PDF's in iCloud using an iOS device. Mainly, we don't want the PDF's to reside on our devices, rather in iCloud.
Nice to get some advice (That worked!) instead of the incessant whining about "mising features". As a user of information, I don't really care where it is stored as long as I can access it easily when needed. (BTW, the thread is "how to upload PDF's to iCloud," so forget the off-topic comments: you gave good advice to a real user with a current problem that is now solved!)
Thanks,
D
So I'm entering this late. I just uploaded to PDF's to iCloud. According to the documents on my computer they are in iCloud, however, they do not show up in iCloud when I log in to iCloud with my MAC nor are they visible in the Pages menu on my iPad. Do what's up with that.
