when i called them they said they give me an exception so i was free of charge. just an fyi.
Whenever you use iCloud in an App. , it Stores no copies in iOS , but only in the cloud ... That is the Drama : if iCloud goes nuts = docs gone.
Only advice : don't use this Feature at all. iWork for iOS can still Sync via iTunes like before. The cloud stuff is füll's optional.
Today I created a document in Pages on my iPad, and when it synced with my iPhone through iCloud I lost the last three paragraphs of the document. I went to reopen the document after the sync and it said there was a sync conflict, presented me with two versions of the document and had me choose one to keep. The one I kept was not complete and I have lost the complete version for good. I have no idea why there were two versions saved since I had just created the document. anyone able to explain this issue? This is not the first problem I have had with iCloud.
This question may come a little late for some of you, but haven't you heard of the term "backup"?
Always backup your data, simply means store them in two separate places, best on different kinds of media in different places. And remember - any cloud service is not more secure than you own hard disk: both may fail.
Data on any storage system is in fact not safer than your name written in the sand at the beach - it will disappear, it is only a matter of time!
Personally, I have never had any Apple device in my hand (well not fully true, a friend once let me hold his iPhone for a few seconds), I am using Windows; and for backup I am using IDrive. And I just saw at their web page that they even have a version for Mac too. There are probably many other third-party backup solutions for Mac - they will not get the data back you lost now, but may help you next time the cloud service has a flaw.

Just a small reminder of IT basics from a Windows user since the beginning of times:
Don't worry about backup - as long as you have tested your restore routines!
it is a bug in iOS5. Regardless if you backup or not.
5.0.1 will fix the data loss problem in documents in the cloud. I heared positive reports of devs that currently testing it. It also cures the battery problem and the missing multitouch in ipad1. Google for it, Apple says ios update "available in few weeks".
until then don't use the feature. At least there is hope that it is only temporary.
I use my Ipad and Pages to document observations for work and just lost everything today. I was able to save two dox that I had emailed out. I am soo irritated because my Ipad just stopped sending email as well..so no way to save the dox. I see a Genius on Friday.
icloud can't be trusted .. that's why I said to not use it for critical things. Not yet. The genius wont be able to recover your files - because they live in the "cloud", not on your device . ..
Now I recovered all the data :D I love apple with the new update appears a new folder "recovered data" with all the documents I lost, now i'll trust in iCloud let's see what happend :)
i just did the update and there appears to be no change. my files are still gone, i still can't create a document on my iPhone or iPad if i have iCloud turned on, and i still can't upload documents from my Mac to iCloud.com.
Before the update you restore or configure as a new device?
I don't restore my device and nothing and my docs are back
Hi Luis,
i have the same problem as you. I created some documents in pages on my ipad2 and activated icloud. But it went wrong and now I can not open the documents anymore on my ipad and PC. You're talking about a update with the item 'recovered data'. Where can I find that update? Thanks already.
This has happened to me TWICE now! After spending hours at the Apple Store (none of the geniuses, by the way, know anything about iCloud) and talking with AppleCare, I thought the reason I lot my Pages documents (inlcuding minutes of board meetings that had no back up or hardcopy) was caused when I upgraded to new operating system. I had assumed that my iMac would first back up my iPad, then wipe it clean, put on new operating system and put all my info. back onto the iPad. However, it did not back up, so when it put the info. on my iPad, it was from a few months before and my docs were lost. HOWEVER, since then, I did the upgrade that was supposed to resolve the battery life issue on my iPad, without hooking it up to my computer, AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN! I just looked at iCloud and my document is there, but not on my iPad. They are NOT getting this right, so I have to turn off iCloud for my docs. Too risky! APPLE GET IT RIGHT, THIS ISN'T FIRST GRADE PAPERS WE ARE LOSING!!!!!
I can see my old docs in iCloud, but I can not open them, download them or sync them with iPad/iPhone. Since my IOS upgrade i can make new documents though and sync it with iCloud and all... (works good afterall) But my old documents are 'blocked' in iCloud...
Hi, what have you done to have all data back ?
because i have the same problem - all data in iworks and goodreader are gone
recently, only files in numbers are back in " recovered data ", but the remaining are still vanished
iCloud delete all my pages files
