I got the same problem, after upgrading my iphone 4 to os5 the music app wont play any of my songs, i tried rebooting several times with no results, can anyone help me out with this?
This seems to be a bug in the Music app. Here is how I solved it for my iPhone 3GS:
Once finished, your music should be restored, and will play properly.
Good Luck!
^^^^^ that should work other users with the same problem said that works
In order to save making a new thread...
I just updated on my iPhone 4. When I un-sync, the songs are still listed in my library and when I re-sync, I have duplicate songs, one being the actual song, the other being the 'ghost' song.
How can I completely wipe out my library without wiping the entire phone?
I dont think your approch will work
un-checking music box in itunes will not remove the music on the device, it just simply dont sync, but it certainly will not remove anything from the iphone. If you want to remove music from the iphone, you should clear your library in itunes en check the music sync box in itunes.
After updating my iPhone to iOS5, AAC files played fine, but any MPEGs that were over 128 kbps would not play. Because the syncing process converts MPEGs over 128 kbps to Mac's standard AACs, it fixes the problem – but only if you check the button to Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC. Lastly, it seems that if you manually add songs via drag/drop, high-quality MPEGs are not converted, and they will continue to not play.
It worked for me thanks !
You don't have to go there. The only thing you need to uncheck is the synking of your music in the music heading and say you want NO music on the iphone. That will clear it of music then synk it again by clicking the songs you want and it will work. It did for me anyway with my iphone 4 and macbookpro.
Hope this helps all of you :-)
This fix worked for me. Thanks, shellhornj! I just unchecked the items that were synced in the "Music" section of my iPhone when it's connected to iTunes. I then synced it with no music selected. Then as was suggested, went back in and checked the music I wanted back on there (mostly just playlists I've made specifically to put on the iPhone) and synced it again. This did take a little while (700+ songs being converted down to 128kbps,) but now all the music plays perfectly. I appreciate the quick fix!

Your're welcome! I'm glad it worked.
i tried this - it didn't work - iphone 3g - have any other solutions?
I had the same issue, updated my ipod and ipad software to the new IOS5, i haven't had any issues with my ipad, but on my ipod touch my music player has just froze, I tried cancelling all the music as suggested above, but I can not even remove the music, it like there is a "print screen" on it
Since the latest update been very frustrated; only "purchased" music would play on my iPhone 4.
Did exactly what was suggested here; all fixed➕ Thank you VERY much!
