iOS 5 AVRCP is it version 1.3?

Does the final iOS 5 for iPhone and iPad have Bluetooth AVRCP 1.3 support? Supposedly the betas have/had it. I have a Kenwood DDX418 car stereo that according to the owner's manual supports AVRCP 1.3 that enables showing tag info like artist, song, album info. I have my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 updated to iOS 5 but the song info doesn't seem to be tranmitting so I'm wondering if the AVRCP is still at 1.0. Thanks.

I'm thinking this may be an iOS bug. Paul Griffin (@phoenixdev on twitter) also ran into issues with AVRCP while using his Sony MW600. He told me that in order to get it to work, he had to:

1. Turn off stereo + Turn off iPhone BT

2. Turn on stereo.

3. Turn on iPhone BT

4. Connect to stereo from iPhone

I think our cars initiate the BT connection, so perhaps we are running into the same issue he discovered. I don't think there is a way to get the iPhone to initate the connection in our cars, so I don't think we have any way of testing this 😟.

I've had a similar problem betwen the iphone 4s and the Kenwood DDX418. Before I got the phone my old non-apple phone connected fine to the Kenwood and I could make and get calls via the radio bluetooth. After I got the iphone (and possibly after the update to ios 5.0.1) I could still get calls in via the radio bluetooth but calling out and getting voice audio through the radio was extremely unreliable and patchy and virtually cannot be done now. After dialing the number I get a screen that shows three bars labeled: Kenwood (with the speaker icon), iphone, and speakerphone, and the bluetooth is grayed out even though it was on in blue just seconds earlier. The radio does not fade out but Pandora or itunes will fade out but I cannot hear anything from the phone once the call is in progress. If I switch to speakerphone I hear the phone converstaion through the speakerphone but I can't seem to make a call that comes through the radio speakers.

I have taken the unit to a Kenwood service dealer because Kenwood told me it was a firmware ungrade that only they could do but the service facility told me that they did not have any upgrades. They replaced the BT dongle and it worked in the shop but not when I put it back in the car, (well once in awhile but I can't replicate those conditions). I even swapped my iphone because the Apple tech thought that because the spinning icon next to devices in the BT menu never stopped spinning when connecting to any BT device, it was a problem with the phone.

Kenwood said they would "look into it". Anybody have any suggestions.

I spoke to my closest Kenwood Service Center and the tech there had called the Chief Engineer at Kenwood-Long Beach. The Service Center called me today and told me that they believe that they have a fix for my iphone 4s problems but I'll need to send them the unit. It's probably an incompatibility issue between the deck and IOS. I'll let you know what happens after I uninstall the unit this weekend and send it in.

I have a 2011 CX-9 GT and I too am unable to view song information on the display with my iPad and iPhone 4S -- both with IOS 5.0.1. I was able to view song info when I used a Blackberry Storm 2 with 4.x OS which was two years old, so I know this unit can recognize song info. It is very frustrating to not see this work with the lastest from Mazda and Apple.

I look forward to hearing what Mazda and Apple say regarding this issue.

Just submitted another comment to my bug report asking for a status update from Apple. I have not received any responses from them since I sent them the logs they requested. I found another thread about bluetooth issues: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3400832?start=0&tstart=0

Perhaps the issues are related? I'm not seeing any audio disconnects like many are reporting, but perhaps there is an issue in the bluetooth stack affecting all of us.

I hope they fix it in the new 5.1 update that is supposed to come out soon...
