iOS 5 AVRCP is it version 1.3?

Does the final iOS 5 for iPhone and iPad have Bluetooth AVRCP 1.3 support? Supposedly the betas have/had it. I have a Kenwood DDX418 car stereo that according to the owner's manual supports AVRCP 1.3 that enables showing tag info like artist, song, album info. I have my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 updated to iOS 5 but the song info doesn't seem to be tranmitting so I'm wondering if the AVRCP is still at 1.0. Thanks.

Just out of curiosity...I'm wondering exactly what I'm "missing" due to this apparent problem with the Mazda 3 BT module.

For devices/modules that ARE capable of seeing this song metadata on the Mazda display, is is simply a static info screen showing the album/song/artist/track (like when you play an MP3 CD), or are you actually able to navigate the music files on your device (iPhone) via the Mazda controls?

If the former, this is just mildly annoying. If the latter, then add my name to the petition!

AVRCP 1.3 only deals with metadata display. 1.4 adds browsing support. iOS currently only supports 1.3, so it will require a software update to go from 1.3 to 1.4. It's probably not that easy to do because any changes to the AVRCP profile would likely require companion changes in the apps that use the profile, most notably the Music app.

Whether the Mazda display would be capable of browsing depends on whether it supports 1.4. If it doesn't, then a firmware update would be required for the Mazda system in addition to the iOS software update.

I've tried it with the Pandora app as well in my 2012 CX-9 with nav and RSES. It doesn't show song titles or artists. I believe the Pandora app does support AVRCP.

Just a shot in the dark, but has anyone considered whether this issue is related to the PLAYER being used on their iPhone? I intend to try using the default music player app (and expect it to fail to show track info etc. as described by everyone else), and will then also try playing my music with Soundhound (the only other music playing app I currently have installed).

Any reason to believe this might make a difference? Anyone alreayd tried these/other music playing apps?

I just purchased a 2012 Mazda CX9 GT and am having an issue trying to upload the phonebook from my iPhone 4s via Bluetooth. Actually, there are two issues. One is that all of the contacts that are loaded onto the Mazda are loaded in duplicate. Two of every contact. The other issue is that some of the contacts in my iPhone contacts aren't uploaded at all. So I have double of most and some that aren't uploaded at all.

Has anyone had any similar issues? Any suggestions how to correct the problem?

Got an update from Apple today. Sounds like we're screwed unless Mazda releases a fix. 😟

Engineering has provided the following feedback regarding this issue:

We discussed this issue with the manufacturer. They acknowledged there is a critical bug on their platform, as they require the phone to support no more than AVRCP 1.3. Because iOS supports AVRCP 1.4 since 5.0, they do not enable & use any AVRCP 1.3 feature. The bug has been fixed on their newer platforms.

Thought you might like to know also that my Blackberry Bold works flawlessly with my 2012 Mazda 3 S Grand and all controls work great. That includes all display of artist, tracks, time, pause, everything. Sad that Apple cannot get this worked out as I have an Ipad 3 that plays great via BT but doesn't display any info.

There are numerous articles about this all over the internet that most androids work great as above.

I don't believe that its an Apple issue. The 2010 CX-9 is able to show metadata from an iphone with either iOS5 or iOS6. I still think the problem is with either the Mazda bluetooth module or the audio system itself.

The 2012 CX-9 shows metadat from a Macbook, so the interface betweent he bluetooth module and display seems to be OK.

We know the head unit changed from 2010 - the display no longer shows the rearview parking lines.
